ASTEK

You'll find a list of all the new features and commands attached to this post.

Rules

1).You must be a registered TGC forum user.

2).The game can be of any single player genre, and must consist of between 1-3 levels.

3).You may use any media, including custom (in fact you are encouraged to do so.), but you must be able to supply a commercial use license for any and all third party media used in the game should you be requested to do so by any of the judges.

4).Teams may enter, but must have a team leader who will be responsible for informing TGC of how he/she wishes any prizes to be distributed. All entrants must announce their intention to enter on the official thread.

5).Entries must use vanilla FPSC V119 only and may not use any modified versions.

6).Entries must be original work that has not been started before the start date or before you have announced your entry into the competition.

7).Entries must show a WIP thread, on the official TGC forums WIP board no later than 2nd June 2012 and must follow the official guidelines for all WIP work.

8).The competition will run from 3rd April 2012 until midnight GMT 4th June 2012. Final entries must be made available by this date via upload, should an entry fail to download, the entrant will be informed and given a chance to fix the error. Further failures will, I'm afraid count as null entries.

9).The judges’ decisions are final and will be based on the quality of the entries alone. Judging will take approximately 1-2 weeks dependant on the number of final entries and will be announced on the FPSC chat board. Entries that fail to meet any of the above conditions will be declared null.

Good luck to all entrants and we're looking forward to seeing what you guys can come up with

Dammit, why do I have to be stuck with the free version oh well, I'm terrible at maps anyway. This is a nice idea, I wonder if any of my scripts will be used in these games...

By the way, thanks again for v119 SC.

i would enter, but in fact that i have messed up all the fpsc-folder with altered media for Habitat, i am not able to, except i would do some sort of prequel for my project.^^

nevertheless good luck to all the competitors, and thank you again for this update, Scene Commander.

I'd enter... But rule 3 really kills me. What if the media is your own, but has no commercial licence?

@Vent, I think that applies if you use someone else's media, obviously, you can do what you like with your own media.

However, SC would be better able to give a definative answer to this...

I'll join but I doubt I will win as I do not know much about scripting in fpsc so the useing the new commands might be hard but its all for the fun of it so who cares. I'm in.

@Vent.

You obviously don't need the rights to use your own media, and I've adjusted the rule to indicate this.

@NIlooc223 - I've added you to the list of entrants.

We've got till June eh? Count me in as long as I only need to provide media and an FPM, since I can't build games. I probably won't get much done though. But it will be worth it.

EDIT: Which reminds me, do you have any idea why my top-down shooter script has a spaz when you use it?

Yes, you get to choose, the first pack that I would pick would be TF341.

Great Competition Idea!

But I am still a little lost here:
Quote: "3).You may use any media, including custom (in fact you are encouraged to do so.), but you must supply a commercial use license for any and all media (not created by the entrant.) used in the game as part of the final entry."

I mean, there is a "licenses" folder in my FPSC directory with a .html for (it seems) all the models I purchased in the store. Do I have to copy every single .html of every single model I use into a BIG license document for this comp?

What's more I can't even find a folder where the licenses from all my official model packs went AND I have no idea how I should dig up all the licenses from stuff I downloaded from FPS-Files and Norther Fox Media.

If its really that complicated, I'd rather participate as a judge, if the spot is still open

@Tax78

Yes, you may choice any of the TGC model packs.

@Zombie Killer.

I'm afraid we can't accept fpm's, sorry.

@The Storyteller 01

I've revised the condition to make it a little easier as clearly all of the model packs and much free media is already provided with a well know commercial use license. There is now no need to provide a license with the entry, but every entrant must be able to provide one should they be any query regarding the use of the media. (This is required as some free media has conditions relating to competitions.).

@Ched80 - Welcome aboard.

I figured this, I was just asking because, for example, I only have a non-commercial licence with my modelling program.

Epic competition...

I will be away from my personal computer for the next couple of months, (heavy-duty work load) so I don't think I'll be entering this one.

On the other hand, if I can finish early, I might be able to pull something together. So I'll keep this one mind, and work towards getting a chance to enter.

Scene Commander, I know you have heard everyone tell you over and over "thank you," "you're the best!" and all those other easily-remembered and easily-uttered frases, but I don't think any of us can express our gratitude to you for your unwavering support and effort into V119. I hope your work for V119 will not be soon forgotten. And finally, Thank YOU for everything you've done for FPSC. You are one of the core reasons we have V119 in the shape it is in, and I cannot thank you enough for that. Again, thank you.

Back ontopic, don't count me in, or rule me out for this one. At the moment and for the immediately forseeable future, entering is not a viable option, but I believe I might be able to change that. We'll see what happens.

Also (for future reference), I see that a story is not a part of the judging. If we were to throw together a random shooter but it worked extremely well in all judged fields and all the judges liked it except for the fact that it had no story, would it still have just as good a chance at winning as another game that had both very good features and a good story?

Thank you again SC,
Captain Coder

The story will be judged as part of the catagories atmosphere and presentation and will be scored on how well it is reflected in these areas.

Scene Commander, I will be entering. I have the coolest idea, I just don't know whether I can pull it off. It'll be the least FPSC-style game ever seen (ie. it won't look like the average FPSC game).

It's one of the requirements;

Where? Dedicated upload sites (such as MediaFire), your own development thread, or here? I would prefer the second option.

Rule 7 says no later than one month after the start date of the competition, which was 3rd April. In other words, no later than 3rd May...

Personally I think the development thread deadline is a bit arbitrary considering there are no points for the WIP thread.

There was a similar deadline for the Defy The Odds 2011, but I think it reduced the number of entries in the end. My suggestion would be to just have the final deadline and let people create their WIP thread when it is most appropriate.

I think the WIP threads are regarded as evidence that the game being entered is a new one (in accordance with rule number 6). Hence the requirement for the WIP thread to be created as early as possible...

@Scene Commander: Thanks for the clarification about the story.

I just thought of an interesting story/game idea a few nights ago that would work well in a small 1 - 3 level game. I've done some concept art of the levels and the drawings are turning out well so far, so I'm thinking of hopping aboard on this one. I'll declare my entry later on if I think I can handle it.

@Clonkex:

Quote: "Wow, Captain Coder. Me too! Rare to see anyone on the forums like you and I"

Glad to find someone else like me A true statement you have there, but I think there are more of "us" around here than we think Just look up "Merry Christmas" in the search box at the bottom and look for a thread created by Nickydude in 2011 with similar title. You'll find a few more names

Now, back to the competition... no, wait, first I have to finish my report - and everything else

Thanks to all,

@All

Change of plan regarding the deadline for WIP threads. I understand a few people are having problems making the 4th May and as we've had a couple of late entries I've decided to pretty much scrap the WIP deadline. You will however be required to make a thread before 2nd June 2012, just so everyone can see your wonderful work. -y

Hello, just wanted to say that tomorrow I will be uploading my dev thread once I get back from the Courthouse downtown. Our law12 class is going on a field trip there and I am really stoked!

Also, I had not been able to work on the game for a week cause laptop issues, but I do have something to present for the dev thread, and I will keep working on it!
