Firstly select a segment to create the room. For this room I've chosen the full lab room.

I've now drawn the room freehand by clicking on the left mouse button while dragging the mouse around the grid to create the room seen below.

Next I've moved up a floor and selected the draw floor icon to draw the floor of a room. Using the icon next to it I could just draw the walls.

Using the same method, with the left mouse button and dragging the mouse around, I've added the roof to the room below.

Next I click on the markers and then select the start position arrow (Green) rotate it to the direction I require and then left click to place it in the bottom left corner of the room.

Next I go to the entities list and select a generator entity which I'd like to add to the room.

Next I place it in the top left hand corner of the room by left clicking there.

I've zoomed in to make it easier to place the entities and have placed lots of static entities. I've decided to also place a character (Sci-Fi Conker unarmed) there too, but in this case I want him to be static. As you can see from the picture the shroud is green which means an active entity.

Pressing a key will turn it to a static entity. Next I decide to light the scene by placing different relevant coloured lights at different intensities around the scene, white for the door, red for the generator, green for the green tubes and blue for all the blue objects.

Next I go into to the level information file and select no ambient light as I want my lights I've added to light the scene.

Next I click test game....

And I've just realised I've previously selected full lightmapping so time to twiddle my thumbs a bit a post the first bit of this

Next I will post the view inside the room

This first bit too 10 Mins to do. And it took that long due to me grabbing screen shots...

Switched to quick lightmapping for now and realised I'd not quite got the lighting correct (Quick lightmapping took 20 secs to generate on my PC) Will do a full one, once the lighting looks better.

Decided to add a light stand and place a yellow light on it.

Fine Tuning the light position next.

Next just for fun, put a red light on the corpse table.

And fine position it.

Back to quick testing the level...

Move around a bit.

Will work on a full light map and show the difference over night.

How about you wait 4-5 hours for full lightmapping? and then ask that...

@Mr Flowerkiohl,
You mean you can't see the shadows the coloured lights are showing . Unfortunatly when you remove all the coloured lights, you end up with a lot of darkness due to there being no lights to light the level .

@Jordan Siddall,
I have to do some more testing with the new versions before I can do another one of these kind of things (Plus I have a day job). Other beta testers may be able to post similar things though when they get chance.

@coldnews
Ok...i haven't known that it takes so long. 4-5 hours ?????? only for one room ?

@jasuk70
I can see "dark corners" but no shadows. i mean, a shadow which is projected on the ground from a chair or something. shadow - not darkness !

yeah...thats the ticket !

The last picture above shows projected shadows. On the floor from the table - top right for instance, and the block like object to the left of it.

Is that you CAN see the shadows?

I presume what I can see are shadows from those objects. They are not hard eged but soft shadows so are not very distinct.

I guess if the floor or room was white only with a single object like a table or chair in camera view and one light placed you would see the shadow cast in a better LIGHT if you excuse the pun.

About the lights. . .can you have an entitie giving off light instead of light just coming from nowhere?

Jasuk,

First thanks very, very much for taking the time to do all of those step-by-step screenshots. That was EXTREMELY nice and helpful.

If I may I have 2 questions:

1) In the "quicky" shot above what room type are those walls from (armory? hanger? etc.) In the white light they look like nice generic futuristic walls perfect for a lots of uses

and

2) Is replacing a wall texture easy to do within FPSC (through a browse for file dialog) or do you need to replace the texture(s) in a subfolder holding the prefab/entity?

(actually now that I think about it I'm sure I saw such a thing for entities in one of the editor screenshots, but is this the same for prefabs... I guess what I'm getting at is do "walls" have any kind of attributes you can alter in the program. Thanks!)
