The TGC team would like to thank everyone who took part in this competition. We have been amazed by the quality and quantity of entries. Sadly there can be only a few winners and it has been a difficult choice for us.

The winners are:
1st Wehtam_ - wins $200 software voucher
2nd Crow34 - wins $100 software voucher
3rd Jon Fletcher - wins $50 software voucher
4th Razorback - wins $50 software voucher
5th gps $50 - wins

Can each author send me their FPS Creator level with all media to prove that the screen shot was created in FPSC. You can email me at rick@thegamecerators.com

Well done to the winners and well done to all of you who entered. We could only choose 5 winners and yet there were so many other great screen shots. Keep enjoying FPSC and keep posting what you create so that we can see how far you push the FPSC features.

i must say, i wouldnt expect that specific entry to win out of all of mine

i will just group all the media later, i have an exam in a couple hours, might take a while...

EDIT:

i would have thought that out of all of mine, this would be the one:

I'm not sure what to say really, Thank you so much for hosting the competition and for the prize. I think everyone would agree that this competition really did bring the best out of people. Congratulations to Crow34, Jon Fletcher, Razorback and gps for your excellent and individual entries. The voucher will go toward the development of the Bird of Prey project, among other endeavours

I have to say that though i'm enjoyed this screeny-competition, i don't really agree with the winners; not just the order, but who's reached the top 5. Still, i suppose i can't really argue since its not my decision. Congrats to all who won.

If you had to pick a 6th place, who would it be?

ok, im home, i;ll send the media once its packed, but there may be a problem...

in the time gap between when i submitted that screenshot and the end, i have further developed that level, added some more scenery and messed around with the terrain textures by that pool.

i hope it doesnt have to be exact? there is still proof that it is the original level, as the terrain structure itself is the same and you will be able to see the shape of the pool, just some textures are slightly different and there are more trees

i hope thats ok, im grouping the media now...

EDIT:

ok, everything is sent, i hope its ok, and that you can identify the level

p.s) cool new smileys, heh heh

EDIT 2:

oh and happy birthday gps, what a gift, lol

uhh... I totally agree... jon, you by far have the best media there is.

The winning entry doesn't really look that special... some custom media that looks familiar... and an okay lighting job. I say 'okay' because it is noon according to the sky, yet you have many dully lit items that should be well lit.

You, on the other hand jon, redefine the nature of FPSC.

I call for a recount.

Guys, I don't think that Wehtam_ would appriciate you guys pulling apart his winning screenshot.

I personally think that his screenshot was very good, and the fact is that TGC (or Rick and/or Rich, more specifically) chose Wehtam_ because they felt that his was the most deserving.

Jon's was amazing, and beautiful, but there are obviously reasons as to why they chose Wehtam_ as the winning candidate, whatever they may be.

I know that if I was Wehtam_, I'd be fairly disgruntled by those remarks, but an opinion is just that; an opinion.

I'd like to congratulate all the winners along with everyone who entered, we had an excellent batch of entries this month (and it's good to see that the Screenshot Compo is back on at least temporarily). It also seems that the stakes are higher now than they used to be, at least to my recollection (mind you, the one winner last time won $500, but this way the winners are more widespread).

I guess they chose Wehtam_ because he made his screenshot with mostly stockmedia showing the ability of building good games without modeling custom stuff. I think he did a good job.

im sure TGC had there reasons for their choices, alot of people thought my screenshots were fake, i suppose from these peoples comments, it is fair to feel cautious, well anyway, it certainly came out right, and im just choosing something to get with my voucher

i look forward to the next competition, any hints on the subject it will be about?

by the way rick, you spelt your email address wrong in the first thread, not a huge issue, some people tend to copy and paste

Sorry for the double post the edit button does not work for me as of yet.

@tom0001

Since when did FPS Creator come with a segment with an arched ceiling and a transparent animated water segment? I may be new to the forum but not to FPS Creator. I bought it back in November 2005. I find it absolutely ridiculous that after only five post, here I am having to defend my work. Furthermore a screen shot cannot tell you a games worth. I’m sure others will agree with me. It does not tell you how much time is spent modeling, creating music, sound effects, voiceovers, cut scenes custom menus and scripts for the entities that you create.

If you had read the contest rules, it stated: You may use FPSC media or your own media, but not the Halflife 2 zombie or other copyrighted material. It was purely a screen shot competition not a media competition. Whether or not contestants used stock media or not is some what irrelevant.

However to prove it’s a custom segment I’ve attached a screeny of the segment. I had just started working on that level to test that segment and some scripts. But I’m still still need to correct the texture mapping and the segment alignment.

http://img355.imageshack.us/img355/893/cata025ae.jpg

Things that people didn’t notice:

In the first screen shot labeled evil in the woods, brand new window segment, numerous plants I created in max, all low poly. Had I owned plantlife it would have made it easy. It featured a custom roof, a full terrain not a partial, custom segment, and animated wood burning stove inside. Not to mention uvw unwrapping sunflash’s tree pack to single maps, it now works in the exe.

@Nigezu

Thank you for noticing the sewer.

The screeny labeled in the sewer. What more can I say accept it’s an entire sewer system complete with an animated manhole cover. As soon as the newbie trial is removed I’ll post a video, in game with the built exe so you can see the sewer.

The screeny labeled they bite, a full cave, water segment and a crocodile. I spent a week creating , rigging, animating the crocodile and creating a script. Then getting it in the game.

Since November till now I’ve created dozens and dozens of models and figured out quite a number of things. You’ll be surprise at what I got into FPSC. It can do much more than you think. If you can model, animate and key frame, you can get it in the game. So give a guy a break, I may have something to give back to this Community. Also I may be the only newbie here that didn't say gimme.

You know what? Here’s a video of the sewer.

razorback, quality work there, very nice? was the water actually animated, or was it the screen capture 'jittering'

that would have to be better water than my attempt, the transparency on mine leaves open dots, yours seems more natural

Razorback, some of the folk here can't see the wood for the trees, I wouldn't let it bother you too much

I loved the video - the manhole cover was a very nice touch, as were the bobbing items in the water. The only downside was that the ambient sound loop made me want to go for a pee

Thanks Guys,

Jon Fletcher, the water is animated. I tried a shader version of it, but I lose some of the transparency, but it still looks good.

I have to admit though I have a very unusual method of video capture. Ati’ aiw pro and a vcr. You get the drift. I did try the Fraps demo it’s a nice product.

Gps, my sister said the same thing about that ambient sound loop, lol. In game it doesn’t sound that loud, but in the video it’s quite loud.

You both are very talented as well and yep, cool isn’t it.

Yes, but we have users here who are young and even though they probably swear as much ( if not more than) than us, we don't want to get blamed by parents.

Tom swears too much for a public forum so i have to agree with FredP on this
