[UPDATE]
http://freegamedev.sunnydale.se[/UPDATE]

Hi guys, I am making some free models for the darkbasic community (and everybody els).
Atm I only have my barrels on my site, but more models will be released soon, so keep yourself updated!

http://www.apollostudio.nl/badname/ (go to free stuff )

screenie of the diffrent barrels

I hope everybody has fun with them! And if you use them in your game please post some screenshot, I would like to see it

Coming up next: Beretta model
If there are any request or idea's i will look into them but i wont promise anything! If there are many people who want me to make packs of older models i made, i can also look into that.

Those look excellent, and it's very generous of you to give away some models. I'm sure many users here will find many uses for them.

well the barrels i did this:
find a good rusty pic or make one yourself put this layer on the bottom fo everything, then put a layer with the color you want the barrel to be on top of it, then with scratsh brushes and dirt brushes (wich you can find on the internet) erase some of your color layer and there your rust apears!! Then use the burn and doge tool to make dept in your texture (ie the opening in the barrel on the top)

The crates are done like this:
Find or make the woden bars patern, put some wood layers on top of it so make the woody feeling, play aroudn with the layer types until you get a good effect.
and your done!

Next I want to make some trees, always good to have some good trees, because the ones I see on most screenshots are horrible :X

oooh... those models look like they were made to be knocked around Newton-style

the next release of Newton will also support cylinders, which will be perfect for the all-important FPS barrels

i suppose there are not many RPG coders, but it would be nice anyway....im working on a project but dont want to release details until i have a demo(most RPG's are looked down upon.)

yeah, thos boxes and crates would be great for my rpg....ill definately use them when the pack comes out

thanks,
Bish

p.s.- yes trees are DEFINATELY needed....i have been searching for good trees forever, but most are just plains put together and textures.....im looking for something more substantail

Yeah, I would love to see some trees. Those are key for any outdoor enviroment, but it's hard to find any low-poly ones. It would also be nice if a weapon pack came in the future as well

Hey Bishop, there are lots of RPG coders out there like me for instance, trees would be awesome, im doing a Morrowind style RPG right now (although its locked into 3rd person) and trees would be great. Also buildings, houses etc... those would be great.

Yep. If you give db peeps a .x model, and a .txt file like:

frame 1 - 15 : fire
frame 16 - 30 : reload
etc..

Then the db peeps will be able to use it

Sometime in the future Badname is going to be working as a modeller professionally, that much is clear.

No, it's the web site. Hopefully temporary. I was lucky enough to see the barrels and crates. They're definitely deserving of the rave reviews. Can't wait to see the trees.

Andy Igo is right, BadName's gonna get snapped up by a big gaming company if he keeps making stuff this good.

Nice models but I noticed this on your site
"Here you can find models with textures that programmers can use in there games to make them more spicey. They are totaly free, but released under the included license wich doesn't allow any commercial use. If you use any of my models in your game i would like to see it so please send me a email"

It probably dont matter to many but this is the bit I noticed

Umm my website was down for 1 day only Host was totaly down.
What are these rave reviews?
Comercial use is indeed not allowed, only if we agree on some deal it can be used.

Just bought a wacom tablet so hope to have some trees soon

And thnx, I hope to get a part time job yes =-)

i think that you could get away with selling a license for those. i know i would probably buy them. id be relly cool if you could sell each one individualy. id probably buy darkmatter stuff, however i dont want to but all of those extra models i dont want. oh, and also, could you posably make these into .csm objects as well? that would pretty cool.

yes you can buy a comercial license i'll have to update my site on that, you can just email me about what you want to buy and then i'll reply how much it costs, and you can pay it via paypal.

And i'll look into that .csm but i dont see why thats nessesary =-)

Am am thinking about the gun and trees if they should be free or cost a little money, because the donations didn't work till now.
Would you buy those models for a cheap price? And you can pick wich you want ;O What is a reasnable prices for you?

Also I could make models with texture on request that for a person for a little payment. Like someone mentioned a tank, stuff like that.

I must MUST congratulate you Badname on EXCELLENT, 5 star! (frog splash - see RVD in WWE pro wrestling) work on models! Let me be the next in the already infinite line of people to tell you that you've got REAALLL!!! talent.

I really could use your abilities cuz i'm a picture perfect programmer with only decent art skills, so i'm not in the big picture of game making

About your question on costs. I think I have a good idea - here goes.

Me being a poor boy thinks it's a good idea if you could keep SOME models free and start modelling for people personally. That be, people request you a model, you negotiate a price with them and then release with that price.

Now, 1 prob with that is that if MANY people start requesting, negotiating would cost time - hmmm... The best thing i thunk for this is to first start out small, only a few clients at a time, making a variety of models (all around) and then fix your prices for future models based on these - good idea?

Another way to go about this is to enter teams of programmers on the DB gaming community but not just ordinary freeware games. Games that will bring in money for the team and hence for you too - this way you get fame and fortune!

Let me ask you - when you started out in art designing, did you make such great images / models / textures right away? Or did you need some practice?

I wish you all the best for ur future talent and don't forget us little ones - pls keep a few models free okay? . Hope to see you in DreamWorks

NOTE: No, i'm not just sucking up, i meant it all - really... REALLY... REALLY! etc.

For when they said I couldn't, I did...

I am quitting, this doesnt have the result i hoped to have. Almost no downloads no pageviews no banner clicks i win nothing by this ;C

So this was the last free thingy on my website i think i keep them online in hope that if they get posted in the next newsletter more people get them...
So for the upcoming models expect a little price tag, wont be much.
