I haven't quite finished my Games Programming Degree yet but I applied to several companies anyway and sent them a link to my website along with the application.
Iguana-Entertainment gave me a job based on the games on my site, most of which are written in DBP. They were particularly impressed with 'Concentric' and I am now writing a game that is somewhere between Concentric and Bejewelled. Once its done they want it porting to iPad.
It's going to make finishing my degree tricky but it has to be worth it!
So, I am now in the games industry thanks to DBP!!

Congrats! Although is it odd that I like the way your personal website and games look more so than Iguana? You should convince them to at least remove autoplay from the video they have on EVERY PAGE OF THE SITE. T_T

But on a more serious note, that is very cool!

Well I still have a couple of years of school so that should give me some time to get up to scratch on programing and 3d/2d art. You've given me some things to think about

Wow, I used to work in the same building as Iguana, just a few doors down and I live literally around the corner. Who knows, one day we could get together and have a few beers.

Congrats Scraggle.

Hi Scraggle,

So will you send TGC 15% of your wages?

Just joking mate!

Good luck in your new job and make sure you let them know about AppGameKit!

@RickV
Funny you should say that. I am trying my best to come up with a good pitch that will convince them to use AGK.

Nice one Scraggle! I wouldn't worry too much about your degree, the games industry tend to go more on your experience and previous jobs than qualifications, although I am sure they will help So just having a job in the industry is well and truly a good start to a career in games. Iguana obviously spotted you had talent from your work so far and not from the degree you are working on. Good luck on both finishing it and your new job!

That's really not true, but I know that exceptions always happen. I've never seen an employer not care about a degree, but maybe it's different in the UK Again, congrats man!
