Hi all,

Some source code for anyone that wants it - there are a couple of issues with 5.9, like the jeep goes mad now, but it's there anyway .

Grab it here:

Tried downloading it. Get an archive seems to be corrupt or damaged. I tried leftclick-save, rightclick-saveas, leftclick-open. Using Firefox 1.05 if thats an issue. Any ideas?

* number of ownloads would have gone up a bit. Several attempts by me.

I really should have a website by now, but I'm kinda stuck with these online uploader thingies until I can find the mental staunch to get a site together.

You can use yahoo geocities.

Just make a yahoo account , you`l get a mail , and a free geocities site (it`s all free) , yes , the geocities site has ads (if you don`t pay) , but it`s good for file storage , and it has a great multiple file uploader and manager , and it supports html , php , and some other formats...

Yahoo has a tendancy to make me consider self-harm, I really can't stomach it .

I think this upload should be better, beware of popups though, not nasty popups, just the usual 'we gotta pay for this somehow' ones.

site's reasonably speedy. Will see what I can do playing round with the code. Can't wait to get started on the engine with syndicate, i played about 7 hours of the snes version the other day (i was sick so I stayed home with my big screen tv, ooooohhhh yeah). And to see it come out with your professional looking engine wil bring tears of joy to my belly button. (Seriously crying from one's belly button is a pretty hard thing to do). I have more to say but I will save it for the new syndicate thread I will start making.

I can't get it to work... It goes to the screen image with all the controls, and then just stops.
What could it be?

hi van b

I was thinking of making a cannon fodder gam like you have (cause when I first played it(I was 6) I loved it soo much)
but I cant model to save my life.
Could you
A) model me some of those people
B) Teach me how to model the people

B would be cool cause I would love to learn to model.

Thanx

iam waiting instead to see if there will be an more up to date version with not so many buggs that probably this work in progress version.
i wanted to see how he solved some of the issues iam working on with my own rts.
and i know that van is the man so there will probably be an new version later on.

Its pretty cool. Love the way the aliens are hit multiple times. Now maybe my weak brain can learn something from the code. If I don't, its still fun to play. Thanks Van.

I'm afraid that's it guys, there's really no more debugging I can do, I think the bugs are in media loading inside DBPro, because I can't trace them. I wish I had more time to work on it but I've got a compo on the go, so my time is kinda limited. It should be most stable in DBPro v5.9.

It worked indeed stable with 5.9.

Though, after shooting a while, the program gave an error of array subscript out of bounds... I think that's a tweakable bug

BTW, very cool game!

That sounds like a collision problem then, like it's refering to the collision system arrays wrongly.

Once I get a website organised I'll do a bit more debugging before uploading it (so if anyone finds a bug please post about it), I eventually want to tidy up my other games and release the source to most of them too.

Sorry Big Man, haven't got the time. You should go looking for milkshape tutorials, really I would'nt be an ideal person to try to teach you character modelling.

I get to the screen that shows the controls and then the game shuts down. Any idea why?

Do you mean the settings screen? the one where you choose performance options and screen size? it says it has to reset the program when you save stuff. Try going start game instead of options.

The controls screen is shown during the level loading, so it could be that DBPro hates one of the models it's loading. However that changes depending on the version of DBPro - I find v5.9 works, but the jeep goes crazy, still the best option though.

From my debugging, I came to the conclusion that it was an internal DBPro bug causing those weird loading problems, not ideal I know - perhaps things will work better in 6.0.

Wigget,
Dude, I'll get onto the improved engine soon, just kinda swamped right now with the compo's.

Really, all you have to do is update to 5.9.

Just as soon as the attach button starts working again, I'll stick it on this thread - damn generous 50mb limit would be a shame not to take advantage of.

Will try later tonight.

You should try the uploaded game from the showcase, or second edition (which has better camera controls, a map, stuff that I can't remember...).

Uploads still borked .
