Well, it's a post-apocalyptic shooter that leaves the mystery of how to complete it to the gamer. Most of the time there are no enemies to fight, as they sneak up on you and explode. The game never actually ends in a sense that it stops you from playing, until you die. It's really kind of depressing.

Just Played the game - I liked the voice acting very much and you made good use of lights. Some randomly placed scenery (burnt out cars, derelict buildings and dead trees) would add to the game greatly. Also more than one spawn point for your bad guys would be good.

Perhaps moving your main characters legs up (or body down) a bit would look better as he looks a bit like a Wii me at the moment.

The game shows great potential and i also liked how the mutants died in a puff of green smoke. Good luck.

Um, I guess what you're seeing is some sort of glitch, Jammy. I don't get those legs on my computer. It's just a retextured DarkMatter model, so I'm really surprised. It looks almost like the limb for the hips is hidden.

@bobbel- Yeah, the game is kind of boring for a shooter. Actually, the voice was from a text-to-speech program. Not bad, huh?

It's really too bad I didn't even make it through stage 1. Is my game not good enough? Some of the winners' games are really sickening after a while. Mine is is non-habit forming and doesn't cause nausea, unlike some of the other leading brands.

Who's games are you referring to, out of the 10?

I believe everyone in the competition has put in allot of effort, and I'm quite impressed with all the entries. I understand that your at a bit off an annoyance of not getting into the top ten but perhaps it could have been something as simple as your game was too big to be considered a mini-game...

The next competition is coming up soon, I'm sure you'll provide us with some good competition.. you just seem like that type to get hit down and get back up again stronger, producing better and more innovative games i look forward to going against you in the next comp, if you do decide to go for it?

I don't know, what and when is the next competition? I hope I would at least place. I produce quality material, although I guess it's just not good enough.

Heh stop fishing for compliments , if you've read the main board on the competition thread they've been slightly suggesting another competition soon? ->> CC#2

I cannot give you a definite answer as to why you didn't get into the top ten perhaps asking for constructive feedback from one of the judges would perhaps enlighten you on why?

Just remember don't ask them "OMG WTF why's my game not in the top ten you MOTHER****" lol you'll get a far better response with something along the lines off "Hey, i was wondering if some of you could enlighten me about how i could have improved my game for the competition?" <-- manners

@Dragon Knight- I'm not trolling, I'm not flaming, and I'm not asking for sympathy. I know deep down inside that I should have won this competition, and thus have lost faith in the community. However, I WILL stick around for CC#2, whatever it may be, and I hope to get first place.

What, What? I'm sorry but your game really isn't that great. I mean, I know how you feel, spending all that time working on a game and then not even getting into the second round. I didn't get in when I really think I should have. My game is completed, it has menus, highscores, sounds, and ok graphics. But I accept the fact that mine obviously didn't appeal to the judges and so it wasn't worthy.

Flat out saying that yours should have won is wrong.

Hmmmm, I just played it and TBH I had no idea what to do. First I heard a strange synthetic voice, then I ran to a white pole, then I heard the voice again, then the pole disappeared and I was stuck in the middle of pitch-blackness with no clue where to go or what to do.

@AndrewT- Nice, you played through the whole thing! I'm glad you got a feel for what it's like. Trust me, if the world were taken over by aliens we'd all be confused.

Same here. Perhaps you could add more to the game now that the competition is over? Maybe try to make it less unclear what the objective is, but still create the feeling of disorientation and confusion? This could become a much longer game if you wanted it to, with lots of messages and objectives . That would be quite the challenge .

I know deep down that MY game should have won, because I poured tears onto my keyboard several times through its development. However, it came now where close to winning. Only you can know just how much time and effort you put into your work, and because of that, you get a very biased view of the final game. We all wanted to win, thats what makes it a competition. Its where the drama comes from.

Cheers for round 2. Im letting the demon burst outta me next time.

@flashing snall- You suck.

@Sixty Squares- Sorry, but I'm uninspired and burnt out. Maybe a sequel, but this game is dead.

EDIT: Didn't I already update the game? I mean, the first and only version I posted on this thread was 1.2, and I uploaded 1.1 to the competition. Not much changed, but still...

Alright. I look forward to seeing your next project. Remember, don't just think plot~ also think gameplay! Would you play your own game for fun? That is the question to ask. If the answer is no, then maybe you need to change a few things. Anyway, good luck .

Thanks, Sixty Squares. I was thinking story, all great games have some. As far as gameplay, I think I have the controls down OK. Maybe if I were to add a little more combat to the sequel... Yeah, like a true FPS (or TPS).

Well, I am trying to make my own game engine/script loader, but I'm not sure how far that will go. I have all these great ideas and I'm a great programmer, but sometimes when it comes to the really big stuff I have a hard time. Examples being memblock heightmap loaders particles and physics.

I never figured out memblocks, did something sorta similar to heightmaps, only with ascii code, particles can be very frustrating, and physics... Physics... Coding physics is fun, but usually causes so much pain that it isnt worth it.
Im guessing youve checked around for tutorials and stuff?

Brick Break, I thought your entry was technically good, but lacked direction and purpose. For that alone it failed to get through IMO. Too much shooting, and no real idea what you were doing. For one, it seemed the Chalice was on a timer rather than just being hidden on the level. After that I just waited and shot things for a bit then wandered round.
I did like the graphics, obviously the enemies were darkmatter objects but they are there to be used, I do myself, always find characters hard to do Although I can do good buildings etc. Your map was very good indeed and I loved the lightning.
Basically good job in the main, you just forgot to make it addictive is all.
For instance, say you did a save the innocents game in the same context. But had people in the main Chaple and you had to protect THEM (while staying alive) from the monsters and not shooting them.. Possibly having escort missions as it progresses to escort them out. It's all in the idea and presentation.
Good luck in the next compo or your next project.

Dvader - I think you are getting me (Jammy - Call of the dead) and Brick Break - Dark Survival Mixed up.

Thanks for your comments though. Time was my biggest problem and stopped me adding features like you suggest.

I fully accept the judge’s decisions (unlike Brick Break) and think there are many good contenders for the top 3.

Hope to see you in the next compo too.

I liked your game alot, not for the alien fighting, but for the atmosphere and that guy who talks, it is a very good idea how you want the players to make their own way to win the game, mabey some background ambience, like really spooky sounds, and stuff like that would have been good but it is still a good game.
