Looks good-- is it a lightmapper or can you actually import/position objects?

To start with you'll be able to scale/rotate/move objects and add lightmaps.

I also need to be able to delete faces and flip normals so I'll be doing some vertex manipulation too (I could use other software for this so I'll see how it goes).

The main focus for me once I can insert my objects as I want is to add lightmapping, after that I'll be finishing my game "Escape-The Living Dead" before I do any more with my Editor.

I have just been updating the look of the Editor UI (looked a bit dull), what do you think?

Great, except when you go to import an object, you shouldn't have to select a format.

Why not?

I only ask because I tend to know what format I have saved my models in and I would normally store them by type... but then maybe I'm a little strange...

That is a little strange... Why don't you just stick to one format when you make your models?

Is it really that strange?

I don't always use my own model, which I tend to save as 3DS. Sometimes I use other people's models such as the characters and scenery from FPSC which are in X.

Also I save any finished levels as Dbo once I have added my components in.

Would you rather see all possible filetypes then or an option in the load screen?

What do you think of the rest of the editor so far?

Very nice editor!

It's a little bit strange for me when using it. Basicly the steps you have to do to change the object (rotate, etc), I guess it just needs getting used to like any other program.

I feel that it needs a grid. Just for the ease of thinking, because when you rotate the camera and you're not used to what line colour is what axis it can get the brain in a bit of a tangle.

The scale thing for me doesn't work or I don't know how to use it.

I seriously have to ask, how do you have the file/edit/tools etc bars???? I would love to know.

Great work so far.

Thanks for your comments.

I am planning on adding a grid at some point, good suggestion.

Scale is not working yet, sorry!

The menu bar is made with Blue GUI a purchased dll system you can find here:

You should allow to automatically get the filetype from the file extension, really... that'd be nice and easy

Your signature has been erased by a mod - Please reduce it to 600x120 maximum size

A quick update:

I have added a few new features and taken some suggestions on board.

New features:
Textures-Objects can be textured and the texture can be scaled and scrolled.
Rotation-Now works a little better.
Scale-Also works now for most types of object.
Grid-Has been added which scales automatically depending on zoom level (no "snap to grid" as yet). EDIT: Snap to Grid Added
Parent/Child Mode-To edit my new multi-layered objects.
Box-Is now a multi-layered object (sides of the box can be edited/textured/deleted indipendently).
Room-Is a new multi-layered object (sides can be edited as with box but are only visible from inside where boxes are visible inside and out).
Centre View-User can select a point on an object/space to centre the camera view upon.
Import-Now gives the user the option to import any of the 3 types of object from the "Import" dialogue.

In progress:
Export-I am working on the export function.
View-Various new view modes in progress.
Light mapping-This is the next big issue after Export.
EDIT: Group-To create multi-layered objects

I'll post this version of the "Demo" once I have Export working I guess...

Ok I just tried it out. It does look professional but there are some major issues that I can see. First there is no New selection. Where you can just start a new project.

Also adding models isnt very friendly. I couldnt even get one to display. I tried to move a cube around and couldn't figure it out. Save with scaling and rotating. Im sure the functions you have work. You just need better implementation. I Should be able to use the mouse to select, then move scale and rotate objects. Well at least thats how I think it should be done. Nobody is going to use a difficult product.

But Overall it does look very professional and its a great start. Keep up the good work.

I haven't actually implimented any "Save, Load, New Project" options yet so you are right there! I am trying to get the editor to work properly before it can save "projects".

Quote: "Also adding models isnt very friendly. I couldnt even get one to display."

I thought the menu was fairly simple, File->Import? (If this is not working then please let me know!)

Quote: "I tried to move a cube around and couldn't figure it out. "

I appreciate I may have my own ideas how to "Add/Move/Rotate/Scale", but could you suggest why this did not make sense? I tried to add some hints either in the bar at the bottom of the screen or in the "mouse hint" box. I am making this mainly for myself but if I can help future users I will be Very Happy

Quote: "Save with scaling and rotating."

Is this not working?

Quote: "I Should be able to use the mouse to select, then move scale and rotate objects."

Is your mouse not working?
All actions in the editor can be accessed by clicking on the menu or toolbar buttons... all of which work fine for me! I have tried to make all functions fairly "standard" in how they work for CAD software. Maybe I need to make a "User Guide"

@Azunaki, I'll have a try with the demo but it might be a moot point as I have made a million changes since then (PS.I am prone to exageration).

Updated version due V.Soon!!! Many bugs fixed and features added.

ok so gave it a stress test.... and it gave me this error.
runtime error 7029 - 3D Memory Error at line 941
(600 size 600 rows 600 colums...)lol

ok and the i pressed s and i got a message that said press enter to finish selection, but i have nothing to select and enter isn't doing anything.

ok after restarting the program adding an object and testing it scaleing works but it doesn't scale the white vertex box.

also an undo and redo feature would be really nice.

Usually means your graphics card ran out of memory. Well, at least it did to me whenever I was working on Dynamic shadows.

@Azunaki, Thanks for testing, yes there are some keyboard shortcuts I've put in.

S-Scale
M-Move
R-Rotate
C-Centre View
T-Texture Panel
Q-Quit current action

The important one here is:
Q-Quit current action

This is all I have for the moment as Undo and Redo get rather complicated and I couldn't be bothered just yet. I will be adding them in at some point though thanks for the input!

It just stops anything you change your mind about half way through!

As for why your graphics card ran out of memory I don't know...this software is far from being graphics heavy at the moment...

Hi Jeff, it's mainly BluGUI with some of my own stuff added. The buttons, hints, general interface including the texture panel are mine. BlueGUI is used here for the 'Windows' style menu bar.

Thanks for looking!

I'm working on this project at the moment. Lots to do though!
