Been working on a new project and considering targeting netbooks. Though I'd have to configure the app for a lower resolution as it's currently set for 1280x720, I'd like to hear how it runs so far.

Press <enter> to drop a stone. Click and drag the mouse from the shark to shoot it in a direction. Press <space> if you lose the shark off-screen. This is in no way a playable demo of any sort, just a simple requirements test to see how the shader runs and Box2D with 40+ objects.

On my Core2 Duo 2.66GHz with a 256mb Geforce 8600GTS, I can drop 60 stones and still remain at 60fps just fine. But I'd like to see if that holds up with lower-end PCs, like something with an integrated Intel card.

Baxslash runs a group for community testing of Netbook games in the DBPro board, it's stickied at the top.

Hey Phaelax! I just tried your game and it wouldn't run on my netbook as you suspected. If you compile it at 640x480 or even 800x600 then use "Set Display Mode" to up it to 1024x600(max) I will be able to test it on my netbook. Looks like the distortion shader came in handy

As a reference I started my own box2d game using this shader a while ago and it ran a little slow using the shader but not too bad to use (around 40fps think). The thread for my game which is still being developed is here:
Ker-Bang!

I beg you to include an option that lets you select any supported resolution.

I'll start working on a more resolution-independent version and get back to ya.

I remember looking at that Ker-Bang thread not too long ago. How's it coming along?

It's halted at the moment but I'm going to fire it up again soon with an improved idea and new style of gameplay. Should be fun (and quite different to your game if it's 'angry birds' in style).

Just send me the new version to try when it's ready

I attached a new demo to my first post. Running the application will run at 512x300. Using the shortcut you can set your own resolution, such as 1024x600. It will work above 1280x720, but I wouldn't suggest it.

I was a little concerned with how to scroll the scene while using Box2D. Then I realized that because of your shader code, everything is already drawn to an image first. I don't know what I would do without ImageKit, can't believe I never downloaded it before this project.

Didn't work on my netbook, though I own one of the first netbooks that came out (the Asus eeePC 900).

I just now realized I've had a typo in my signature for the past 3 years.

If you do find that you need to scroll in Box2D, b2SetScreenTransform is your friend

Any kind of error message?

I updated the file again. You can use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out

Downloading...

I'll try it out tonight if I get the chance. I'm playing with box2d again myself. It's great!
