edit: for those first reading this Chafari is ok and will hopefully be around for more ages to come to share his wisdom and such Good to see you again Chafari

old post:

Im wondering if anyone has seen chafari online since febuary 17th? He had told me that he didnt have much time left and may pass away soon.

Some people may know him for his modeling competition entries or even his latest program Lathe tool he released that made it in one of the monthly news letters. If anyone knows him personaly that would be cool to get some form of update on him.

If not i think chafari deserves some good recognition of his work after passing away. I personaly feel like the tgc forums is a large family on its own and we have lost one of our valued members (not by "user status" but by heart) edit: "Valued User"

Best Wishes Chafari if this is whats happened.
You've helped people out with programming and deserve some recognition for it.

Thanks for everything!! You will be missed!

As a tribute....maby someone can help me find the links to all his creations

If anyone has anything to share about Chafari Helping them in some way please do as a tribute. I felt i needed to start a thread for him to honour him for his achievements and just out of respect for a fellow coder.

I`ll reserve this post for screenshots of things he made in the last year or so.

I managed to find a screenshot of a vw he drew using my drawing program.... worthy mentioning as most people know that using my drawing app is not exactly that user friendly yet!

1. vw car

Anyone with screenshots of any model work he has made please post them as a tribute.

Thanks

I believe Chafari made a robot demo - but I think it was posted on another thread. Might have been one on Ric's Challenges thread. I'll see if I can dig out some details.

Edit It was on Ric's Challenges but I'm not sure where yet. Chafari posted the demo in his first post on this thread of mine:

walking robots

I've just tried his lathe tool and it's a really nice idea and works well. It would be good if someone felt inspired enough to produce a final polished version with his name on it - they'd probably have to code it from scratch though since I don't think he posted his code.

I hope this sad news doesn't get confirmed.

I used to have his email address I'll see if I can find it.

I have sent him an email and, like all of us, hope he responds.

Quote: "I personaly feel like the tgc forums is a large family on its own and we have lost one of our valued members (not by status but by heart)"

I couldn't agree more.

Quote: "This is really sad, he was a good guy. I remember him from the day I joined."

As do I.

Chafari always went the extra mile to help his fellow developers. He will be greatly missed.

I agree that it would be cool to see someone polish up his lathe tool in memory..... Very nice idea GG...

I have a direct X plugin as well that can be used for it so it can be more usefull for more applications other then dbp.

Id be glad to donate it or even help with the polished lathe tool idea.

I also have his email address....if ya cant find it. I do know he was realy active in the forums until he posted a personal message to me telling me he didnt have much time left....wich was very sadning.

edit:ok email found....thats good
Anyways....id like to help out in memory anyway possible as he deserves it.

@Green Gandalf, @SMD_3D Interactive

I'm relatively new to these forums and so I never had any interaction with Chafari. If the bad news is confirmed (I hope it isn't true) then I would be more than willing to work on a Lathe Tool, in his memory.

I've always called it a "surface of revolution". Creating such a tool is already part of the my spec for an object editor I'm creating.

I would like to think that this is not the case. Always a bad thing when the good people go. I have not had direct communication with him, but saw a lot of help from him to others. I hope that he's just busy.

I too hope chafari is safe and well where ever he be. I remember when I was first starting out with dark basic, chafari was always there in the newcomers forum to help the new and confused (aka me).

Chafari, If you have moved on, may your next incarnation be a peaceful and happy one. Peace out dude.

Chafari wrote this in a Bug Report thread on 7th January 2012:

Quote: ""Hi there....I finally took the decision to uninstall the version 1.077 as most of my programs doesn't work...actually I'm using the version 1.074 that works without any problem. I will never update my Dbpro again.""

The finality of that statement puzzled me at the time. I hope we're all wrong.

The Weeping Corpse

Yes, "surface of revolution" is the correct mathematical phrase. I'd be happy to contribute some code to get the basic lathe idea working. Chafari's demo is so clear it shouldn't be too difficult to do. I'm useless at button/GUI stuff so someone else would have to do that part.

Someone needs to coordinate this. Would you be willing, SMD_3D Interactive? You seem to have had closer dealings with him than most.

Glad to see you are still with us chafari! I just found this thread and skipped through hoping to see your reply (which happily I did)!!!

Did Master Yoda teach you the method of becoming one with the force so you can keep posting even with no physical form yet? If not I'll send him an email...

Hi again. I really appreciate all your comments to all forum members who have been interested in my health.

@SMD_3D Interactive
I know that in my last post to your site, I have comented you about my illness..... perhaps it was me who jumped the gun being so negative and thinking the worst about what the doctors said to me. Some times doctors speak to us with half-truths like if we are kids.....and any way, I know I have to die someday, but not this time

@Resourceful
Yeah..I'm still alive

Cheers.

@Hodgey - not likely, I'm afraid. My condition is incurable. But my last 5 week stint in hospital was a GREAT way to catch up on coding my game! Had my laptop on my lap the whole time After my surgery my doctors told me I was half-asleep and muttering about all the work I had to get done hahaha the things that keep us going!

Chafari 5 is alive! I knew all that chanting would pay off!
I'm still glad SMD made this thread, often we wait until it's too late to show people they are appreciated.

@CumQuat I hope you get better too, doctors are lousy psychics. Look at Stephen Hawking, his doctors gave him five years to live and that was about thirty years ago! And he has still become one of the most influential theoretical physicists of all time despite hardly being able to move. No matter what the circumstances you will find a way if you are dedicated to it.

one thing accorded to me

there are only a few people in the forum that have contributed so much

if it was not for thees people contribution to DBP
it would have gone dead

more options are coming I expect some time with in the next year
either one of the main people or some new person will come out
with the final needed additions to DBP to have it hit full life

to move side ways - is to move forward
