Hi all,

We just released the 3D Cloth and Particles expansion pack for DBPro. Ask Mike any specific questions you may have about it, but check out its web page first:

http://darkbasicpro.thegamecreators.com/?f=clothandparticles

Also released Version 2 of EZRotate Enhanced. Lots of new features and example programs. All new customers get this as standard, all existing customers get it for free by simply downloading the pack again from the Orders area in your Profile. This time it'll save a _v2.zip file instead. Questions specific to that to Ron (Wolf) please.

Cheers,

Rich

the cloth+particle physics pack looks really impressive!

I must admit I'm a little dissapointed at the lack of any kind of demo... even a compiled version of the examples would suffice... personally I want to see it in motion before I make a purchase!

Well I took the plunge an bought it, and I've got to say it gives me a lot of inspiration. The cloth system looks wonderful and is so easy to use. The particle effects are also pretty neat, especially the fire demo.

Time to play with my new toys

Looks great. Although, as others have said, I'm hesitant to buy it before I've had a go with it. I assumed there'd be a similar system to the terrain pack - a demo that expires after 7 days and then we have to buy it.

We will be releasing a stand-along demo of cloth + particles very soon, stay tuned, no trial version is planned atm.

Also the Enhancement pack and EZRotate pages on the DBPro site have been updated to include a full command listing for each.

Rich

EZRotate V2 DOES NOT WORK!

I uninstalled EZRotate V1 and installed V2, Everything compiles fine but none of the commands actually do anything. Even the demos don't work!

@BlealziBob

Have you created anything with the Cloth yet? I also would like to see something first.

[EDIT]
I went and bought it. Will let you know how it goes.

[EDIT]
Thank you GameCreators for the EXTREMELY prompt processing of my order. Took less than 45 min.

Are demos going to be downloadable, or will it be allowed if someone uploads a demo exe for others to view? - so we can see these things in action before we purchase it.

[Edit: Whoops. I realized that my question was answered. I was at work and rushing out. Sorry all.]

But I would like the demo ASAP. While I dtill have the money

I can post a demo and you can see what happens if you want.

It's 14 megs for the Ghost Train, which basically shows all the stuff you can do.

P.S.

My thoughts exactly. They need more beta testing instead of letting the one who buys it be the tester.

Ok... so you are telling me that you made a particle engine for an engine that has particle engine? That sounds like a desperate call for money.

Also, I amm quite sure that there wont be any new particle commands in darkbasic anytime soon. That's what I dont like about the TGC, you guys make a half decent engine, and start shooting out 3rd party software like plugins and FPSC. I hope that you understand that FPSC might not be a big sucess for you guys, like the 3D game creator. If that's the case, I dream that you start working on DBPro, or will it be a DBPro 2 with 500 new commands!! That's what happened to DBC and that is what happening to DBPro.

Hope you guys understand me.

Cheers.

Ok I bought the plugin, when I install the plugin it doesn't have a directory to instyall to so I chose my DBPro directory using the Browse button then when I get it installed I open up an example and attempt to run it but it says it doesn't recognise the commands, also whats more it won't let me activate it.

This is really upsetting because I hoped I could use it.
Oh yeah I'm running 5.7 if that helps.

Would you be able to upload that demo exe to your site? It'd be cool to see what kind of stuff this plugin can do.

I just upgraded to 5.7 from 5.1 and purchased the 3Dcloth and Physics dll. Everything went very smooth. I even installed Windows XP service pack 2.
There was a slight problem with my map editor(something in the 5.7 upgrade) but other than that I am impressed with the new 3Dcloth dll and how it works..

The pack we just released are particle PHYSICS commands, nothing like what DBPro has natively. The names may imply they are the same thing, but they aren't.

Quote: "I hope that you understand that FPSC might not be a big sucess for you guys"

You're right, it might not be. But I don't think that is going to be the case, there is *nothing* like FPSC out there and yet as T3DGM showed us, there is a definite market for it.

There will be no "DBPro 2" as such, that would be a backward step - the current one will continue to be upgraded on a regular basis with new features and bug fixes as often as we can manage, when the technology from FPSC is moved into DBPro, that will be a significant enhancement to the core language. The more we work on DBPro, the better it gets. To drop it and start something new isn't a good idea.

Cheers,

Rich

Some questions:

1) Have anyone solved the problem with EZrotate V2? It does not work. Will be any time soon?

2) I have installed the Cloth and Particles and it is impressive. Specially the fog vortex in the hall demo program. Can it interact with newton and tokamak physics? I mean, Can I have a program running this engines simultaneously? It would be great.

3) I know is not a question to post here but anyway speaking of plugins: Why does the Advanced terrain does not work with 5.7? Seems like a version fail syndrome.

I bought the Cloth and Particles pack. It's pretty impressive at a first glance. Not going to judge it until I actually really use its features. The train demo is impressive but would be more breath taking if less cartoony.

TGC has yet to let me down. I don't regret spending a single dime on any product I have purchased. I do strongly suggest TGC start making some more serious tone demo's for their products as all these goofy, cartoony demo's undermine what DBP and it's expansions really are capable of.

One example ? In the train demo I was casually sipping my coffee while watching but soon as that Skeleton Knight appeared and swong it's sword (which didnt look so cartoony) I had to put down my coffee and restart the .exe just to see it again and THEN I was impressed.

Take Maya for example, they mix up the cartoony demo's with some very intense serious tone demo's which in turn caters to both audiences from a marketing aspect.

Question,am I allowed to compile the ghost train into a standalone .exe and make avail for others to download and view ?

Many curious minds out there right now.

Hi all,

this looks like a good expansion pack, a few questions for anyone who has already purchased it, is it easy to make fire/smoke (do you need extra media or does it come with the pack), and can you position particles at a certain point as there doesn't seem to be a position emitter command.

thanks for your help

I have to agree,..TGC has been making progress steadily in improving the functionality of their product. The odd bump in the road i can take,...DBPRo is an easy to use directx wrapper,..if you look into the functions of directx you will see them being implemented step by step into the dbpro language. Like all Basic languages, its an attempt to put the technical into this common sense language. I found that, to understand some of the dbpro commands that do not seem to be documented well enough, all I had to do was dip into the directx manual,..find the similar function and "viola" there are all the unknowns explained. By migrating to directx via C/c++ you would get all the commands in detail,..however, its complex. I think we use Basic because we feel a closer affinity to the syntax of it,..and that is what we have been given,..the functions of directx in a basic syntax. Not an easy task,..but im glad they are doing it.
Once Advanced terrain gets fixed, we will be pouring ourselves into the particle effects and cloth upgrade,...

PhysicsMainLang_PC.loc
AdvancedTerrain.dll
AdvancedTerrain.loc

in my plugins-licensed folder

should the PhysicsMain files be in another folder instead?

Thats just it, it won't let me register it at all. No dialog presents itself for me to register it.
I've even downloaded it twice to make sure I didn't get a corrupt download and even re-installed it several times, no activation dialog ever comes up. Its really ponderous.
