I thought the stairs looked a bit odd without a banister rail, so I decided to make one. It's textured to match the WW2 marble stairs.

The zip includes the .x file, a .tga texture, .bmp thumbnail and a basic .fpe

The default file paths are meshbankuser and texturebankuser, but you'll probably want to change those if you decide the keep the model on your system.

As with anything I put up here, it's free for use in commercial projects. Just don't redistribute the mesh and/or texture separately.

Cheers

- Graham

Alternative version 'banister_b' now available, just scroll down a few messages

And here's one showing how to align the banister with the stairs. It should go without saying that you ought to place the stair segment first, but I thought I better mention it just in case

That error message means that FPSC can't find the mesh for the model. Make sure that the 'banister_a.x' file is in \File\meshbank\user.

You might want to check this out as well...

I just edited the .FPE file so all the files could be placed in the same folder for easier editing

Nice work on the model! It REALLY makes the staires look better! Any chance you'll make any more banisters for other stairs? Oh, and would you consider making this a segment for easy alignment?

but did it get positioned correctly so the alignment was good? If so, then why don't you upload all the files for everyone?

Hello,

Question 1
gps would you consider making another Banister with a wall under it?

Question 2
I am a bit confused as to where to put the files to make the segment mod work. Does it require downloading both gps's files and death core's. Where should I place the files?

Thank you for your help and great modeling gps.

@ sunflash - yeah, I'll probably end up making banisters for the other stair types. They all look equally odd without them

@ dog,

Answer 1, Do you mean as a variation of this banister? Hmm - modelling it would be a doddle, but fitting the extra geometry onto an already crowded texture map might be a problem. I'll keep it in mind for future models though.

Answer 2, sorry mate, dunno. To be honest, I think the banister works better as an entity. You have more flexibility with it.

Cheers

Graham, this is one of the best contributions I've seen posted. And thank you for offering it for free. I can't wait for the other banisters if you see fit to do them as well. Thanks again!

Cheers

GPS,

Thank you for your consideration. Is there a way you could model a 45 degree wall under the Banister. So when you attached the banister to the stairs you would have walls under either side of the staircase. I'm sure I'm not doing very well explaining myself. Agin, Thanks for the work you have done.

Dog. you can just download mine if you want the segment. the thing
i like about the segment is that you can place it right against a wall.

Death Core,

Thank you for making the segment and I'll certainly download your work. Question? Does the segment have a 45 degree wall under the banister or are there two variations of the banister? Thank you for taking the time to point your download out to me.

Death Core,

I am getting a error when trying to place the segment into the editor. I'm sure I'm placing the files in the wrong folder. Could you please provide proper file placement. Thank you for your time.
