Hi people,

as a special thanks to the people who have bought CorePak Vol. 1, i would like to give away this free plasma rifle i modelled a while back, the competition seemed it was going no where and there is little interest, so i took the time today to animate and get it into FPSC myself

there is one thing though, i never managed to sort out the muzzleflash, if someone wants to do that for me, please go ahead

I hope you guys like! comments and critiscm welcome

Download is attached, extract files into your...

files/gamecore/guns/scifi

...folder and you should be set, i used some sounds from the blaster, im not the best sound artist, so if anyone wants to sort out the muzzleflash and sounds to look and sound better, feel free, and lend me the download to upload,

thanks, im glad you like i also noticed that the flash of yellow light when shooting doesnt take place, which i rather confusing, i really need to learn more on the gunspecs subject...

i can't download it yet, because i don't have fpcs yet, need to get the money, but does it shoot anything special like a yellow laser or anything? just a question, but good work eitherway!

Jon, you need a joint called FIRESPOT placed at the end of the muzzle - FPSC uses this as the attachment point for the muzzleflash decal and the flash of yellow light. There are two other 'marker' joints, BRASS and SMOKE, which tell the engine where to emit spent cases, and... well, smoke (BTW, from messing around with HUD models it seems that you automatically get a smoke effect wherever you put the BRASS joint - but neither brass or smoke are applicable to a plasma rifle, so no worries )

If it were straightforward, then it wouldn't be FPSC

I still don't know what half the stuff in the gunspec file is doing!

just a quick question. my firespot only works if i change the bone's node behaviour to "has no effect" and I turn caching on.Does anyone elso need to do this?

I tweaked the files a bit and got the Plasma Rifle to fire rapid fire with three bullets per shot. I also got some different sounds. It's all in the zip. If any of you can get the muzzleflash working let me know. As soon as I get that working I'll just need to make a weapon pickup. Jon, could you release the .3ds file so I can convert it to a .x and make it into an entity? I'd appreciate it. Ok all, enjoy the new sounds and autofire

not right now, i am heavily weighed down with revision and exams, during the summer holidays, i may be able to help you and other people, though i have already received alot of requests, which i may have to deny...

nobody has actually commented on the animations yet, i would like to hear something on that, after all this was my first time animating (besides biped, but i didnt exactly make that)

a side note:

this wasnt the suprise i was on about which i was going to give to CorePak buyers you will see soon...heh heh

ok, ive done it, thanks GPS for telling me about firespot, here is the download, now with muzzleflash, which actually looks very nice on the gun, though if someone can make it blue, it would be perfect

nice, but i didnt design the gun to originally have rapid fire, rather a more powerful single shot (the firing sound says otherwise) and also the animations werent built for rapid fire, but its nice to see that anyway

just open the muzzle flash in photoshop alter the colour balance to make it blue, then save it as like "muzzleflash9", then in the gunspec set the muzzle flash number to 9.

very well, never mind i made my own muzzleflash, try it out, this is the flash8.tga place it in this folder:

files/gamecore/muzzleflash/

open the gunspec file in the plasma rifle folder and change muzzleflash to 8

I tried putting the fixed rifle with the muzzleflash in my folder but I keep getting an error whenever I try to load up a test game with the rifle on the player. Anyone know how to fix this?

yeh i just tested it agin, seems that its not working for me either, i'll see what i can do...

it may be due to the muzzleflash number, but thats just strange because theres no flash8?

by the way, GREAT model Jon! it workd for me, execpt for the npc problem that dloodeath is running into. Do you have any other weapn models? if you do can you post links to them??

if anyone else has some free sci-fi stuff that i can use in a commerecial game, will they let me know, becuase I need more sci-fi stuff for my next game!

ps. the guy in the picture i attached should be farmilliar to all of you and you shouldn't need to think about it, cus he is the coolest guy ever i don't care what you think. Im pissed they didn't put him in the second movie!!!

yes, whenever you place a character, it gets an error, quite strange...i really have no solution to it, sorry, hopefully someone has experienced this before and can provide an answer

yes, i quickly UV mapped this, as it was always meant for a FREE contest with no awards, i quickly mapped it to the side, so all the detail is on the side, later i gave some of the top polygons a texture from the side map...

It seems in my amnesia I have stumbled upon this thread. i found a piece of paper. i will read it aloud.

anyone figure out how to fix the muzzleflash? Also, how can I change the bullethole it leaves from a normal bullethole to like a blue plasma impact thing?

the muzzleflash cam out fine, check a couple posts back for the download

the bullethole im not sure, because it depends on the material it hits...

i have already explained that i made a quick map for this, as the competition was one of no reward, and little importance, winning would hardly bring me pride, consider yourselfs lucky i even made the model
