After looking through the ENTIRE 3d thread I am still left wondering......is there any way to export the lighting information when putting your model into dbenhanced?? In example I would like to make a porch light on the house I created and have it affect the house in db like it does when I create it in the model editor

The lights in your model editor are probably not the same as the ones in db so it'd be difficult to get the settings info exported, but you could always put a dummy object like a cube at each light position and export those cubes asi a set of linked limbs (call it the lighting avatar or something). Then in db read the limb position of the cubes and put lights there. First though, you'd set your modeller's units to the same as db's, in max it's millimetres. You could write a max script to export more info like the type/direction of each light, and write a parser for db to make use of the info.

Or, you just write down the locations and put lights there, all things fall into place when you use the correct world scale in both environments, db+modeller

ZX Spectrum 48k Issue 3, Radio shack Tape drive, Rank arena 12" T.V. set.

A problem that arises is that DB uses vertex lighting while modeling programs use lightmaps. Vertex lighting is highly inaccurate and will only look reasonably good if your model has a lot of vertices.

I usually never even use the DB lighting: I'll just change the brightness of a texture if the face is in a bright area or I'll add shadow decals (ghosted planes) to do the job. Using this and FADE and SET OBJECT (regarding the last 3 parameters) works good enough for some cases.

Hahaha
Thanx for the reply guys....for some reason when I checked this post the next day I did not see a reply (internet explorer goof I think) so I thought no one would answer.
ANYHOW, thank you for your replies....I am more than likely going to use ghosted plains for the shadows, the lighting in db wouldnt pose a problem as I can use it fairly well, its just that db only allows seven lights at a time so that makes it difficult to light a moderately detailed scene . Ah well thanks for the help!

ps. Is DBPRO held to the same limitations on lighting as DBEnhanced(only allowing seven lights at once???)...if not I might feel like upgrading THANKS!

DBP supports lightmaps, as seen in BSPs. Think of Half-Life or even Quake3.
