Which is better (performance-wise), using a matrix or using an .x file for terrain?

If you want a complex or underground level i would go with x. because you can model a really cool level whit like 3 stories high building kinda stuff. but maybe you could just use both??

Yeah, it really depends on what you want. For world terrain or landscapes, stick with Matrix. If you want something that will have more than "floor" (aka, tunnals, building floors, ect..) then a X file will be much easier. If you want an indoor level, BSP files work great.
