FPS Creator X10 is coming on a treat, here are some images from a level I made in just a few minutes, it shows the water effects. None of this is final as we will poor more graphics into it over this next 2-3 weeks.

Enjoy.

Nice images. Are those frame rates the norm on X10 being in the 80fps range?

The player currently just runs around under water. Lee needs to slow the player down and I would like to see some kind of diving type movement, like in HL2. I would be interested to hear what you guys think should happen.

X10 on an 88000 flies! So yes, 80fps is very much the norm and we have plenty of optimizations we can make too.

And I like this one - it shows a dead Aiko with her face just poking out of the water.

FPSCX10 will allow you to set a water level you can then change this using FPIs!

nice! the Bloom is to die for, and without doubt, is the best effect in my eyes

Rick, i have some normal mapped characters that i have modeled, and just wondering, if i were to send you the files (assuming its the same kind of structure built off the original fpsc, or just a static .x file) could you please run a test to see what one looks like with the new shaders and return a screenshot to me so i can get a feel as to what models will look like?

if not that's fine, really nice screens, keep up the great work!

but to me (not to sound negative) it sorta just looks like FPSC with water, rag-doll and better physics
y cant u add this stuff to the normal FPSC just dont do it DX10 style, cause theres plenty of games in DX9 that have water and effects (HL2)

on the lite side of things
looking good there fellas, shame i need to buy a 8800 for this atm and i dont have enough money

Nice Rick, but I and a lot of other members here NEED this stuff in v105, also. I am begging you and the rest of TGC to PLEASE put this stuff in FPSC classic v105, also. A lot of people don't have enough money to get Vista, anyways.

American Infantry - X10 and FPSC 105+ share most of the same source, so ragdolls ect. should be coming to normal FPSC (according to Lee)

Sorry for the double post.

Rick, what we also need is weapon physics.

What I mean is when making a G3 from model pack 6 flat on a table using the 1-6 keys, it should STAY flat.

You can also try to do this for stock FPSC stuff, all model pack stuff, and for your DX10.

LOL, Airslide, we cross-posted.

DirectX 10 is only for Vista, so X10 will only work on Vista.

To be fair I kind of agree with Mr Makealotofsmoke / American Infantry on this one.

Last I saw X10 was due for release some time in April and whilst Rick has stated these images don't represent the final level of graphics / quality that X10 will be capable of. This looks like FPSC with water / reflection / refraction. I would prefer to see something that has had a little time spent on it. Especially when the product is this close to release and expectations are high. The water does look impressive of course not taking anything away from that.

FX shaders can be used to good effect to create more varied and interesting lighting / effects in FPSC and the comment 'fpi files will allow your games to change the lighting as and when you choose' is already possible in X9.

FPSC X9 is just beginning to receive some critical updates which are bringing it closer to the development tool we have all been hoping it could be. To me that is more exciting than the novelty value of seeing a demonstration of some new technology which is some way off being in the mainstream just yet.

For example in the console world, there are always a number of releases towards the end of a consoles life cycle which really push the technology and it's interesting to see what people can do with their experience and creativity combined when the full potential has been realised.

I'm going to applaud the decision by TGC to combine development of FPSC X9 and X10 at the same time as this will bring inherent benefits already mentioned e.g. ragdoll physics and such.

Maybe X10 should have it's own forum in order to discuss topics specific to that version whilst the rest of us concentrate on trying to produce a definitive X9 game.

Anyway these are just my own personal opinions and are probably slightly biased as I'm pushing back on migrating to Vista for the time being. I hope that X10 is a success as this will only serve to benefit X9 now that both versions are being developed via a common source code.

one thing I want...
I want to be able to set random keyes to random weapons.
Like, instead of 1-9, I want to be able to set lets say..."f" pistol only, so it kind of stands out. I don't know...im tired.

Your all rather naive. If TGC implement these X10 features into V1.05, they've just lost their best hook for X10. Why buy a new computer, with a new card, with a new operatoring system just for one bit of software when they could just buy FPSC and update it?

I personally don't expect these features to added into the next version of V1.05, nor in any version of FPSC.

AE
P.S. How much will FPSC X10 cost? (just X10, not all the hardware needed to run it).

Question is could those things be added to the non-Vista version of FPSC?

If so then they could create a CD distribution containing both X9 and X10 to satisfy both camps and make extra profit, like a FPSC Gold Edition.

Even though the new computer is going to cost me £3500, im really excited about this. Think about it this way, the graphics look awesome, no one can try to contradicte me on that(please), and they are supposedly going to be better. Look at the games that are out on the PC at the moment, their graphics are becoming basically similiar to X10's. So if anyone is going to sell their game, against all that competition, then X10 is the answer.

And I also agree with AE exactly, why should people spend a couple £1000 on a computer when all they need to do is link up to the forums and download the update, it completely annihalates the idea of profit for them. Unless of course the update will be recieved later on when FPSC X10 is in regular use that is.

But personally this looks awesome, the bottom line is that in all honesty, who in this forum (besides all the problems, like you'd prefer FPSC V105+ to have the update) does not want this program?

Vorconan

ps. @Komet if everyone had FPSC X9 and X10, who would actually use the X9 if they had X10 by their side? And who would pay the combined price of X10 and X9 when they could just buy one of them?

I don't think the graphical improvement would justify me spending thousands of pounds on a new computer system when my current computer works just fine thank you, not only that but it handles every game and any other software that I install on it.

Look, even if you can afford such a system and I reckon most people cannot you will end up discovering that the majority won't be able to play your X10 game because they won't have Vista.

I really think TGC is shooting themselves in the foot with X10 and over estimating the appeal and potential of the X10 and Vista markets, time will tell eh?

It would provide choice and if you think everyone is going to want X10/Vista... dream on.

LOL... if they can afford thousands of pounds for a new PC and OS then shelling out for x9 and x10 in a combined optional install package is mere chicken feed.

I'm betting that X9 customers would be willing to pay for such improvements to X9 though so long as the multiplayer capability has some feature improvements too.

It all looks cool, but to me it still looks like a DX9 game. I really fail to see why we would need Dx10 for this if it can be done with DX9 as well. All you mention and show is just plain old DX9 stuff we see in many games today. All the DX10 stuff I've seen sure looks much different then the stuff shown here. X10 is still not making use of what DX10 can really handle graphically. If TGC wanted they could have given all of this to us without the need to buy Vista and DX10.

When are you going to show real DX10 stuff, instead of showing us DX9 stuff running in DX10? DX10 can create much more stunning gfc then this.

Well, since it's going to be Vista-only AND will be using DirectX10, you'll gonna need 8800 or newer DX10-card.
