Edit: Never mind the old question, I found a good example. What is a col file though?

It could be anything, but I know it as a Color Palette for Autodesk applications. More specifically AutoCad.

The reason i say that it could be anything, wasn't sarcastic.
There isn't really a central registry for many file types. Hence .col could belong to numerous applications.

.col besides often referring to color, can commonly reference collection, collision, column etc...

Here are some examples of .col files
Grand Theft Auto III Collision data, Take-Two interactive grp.
HTML Collection File, MicroSoft
MPeg Audio Collection, The Mac Team
Notes Import Column Description File, IBM
HotShots Image File , PictureWorks

Being this is a game dev board, I am betting on
AutoCad Color Palette or HTML Collection File

Well see, I found a nice pixelperfect collision engine that uses them.

Well than it's either incorporating Take-Two's GTA III engine, or the objects/models were designed in autoCad and those files are just the color paletter.

But why ask this is the 2d board?
