I've been working on a system of my own for a while and as I'm no expert on actually writing games in 2D I don't know what's already available. Can anyone tell me please?

I suppose I'd first better explain what I define as a kit - or what I intend my system to be capable of, so we are talking about the same thing.

I have a Scroller Editor which lets you create your background tiles (or load in tileset images and cut the tiles out at whatever size they happen to be) and then paint them in a scrolling window.

I also have a sprite editor.

As the system is for DB, it will include functions for you to add to your DB programs giving you the required commands for scrolling the tileset.

Is there anything like this available already and is it free?

Hmm...

I was going to ask if it had DB code available for it, but from the second link you gave (thanks by the way), DB is listed.

However, all I get when I click on anything I'm interested in, is dead links.

If that's all there is available though, there's probably room for one more...
