I have since moved to a new hosting service and lost most of my image files. Because of this I asked Indie to delete the old thread so that a new thread could be started. My hats off to Indi for hooking me up, Cheers mate!

On to the reason for the thread......

Remember a while back when I started working on the "heavy transport" model? well I haven't forgotten about it and in fact have cleaned the mesh up a bit and included the three different variant accessories (gun turret, vehicle/personnel and cargo) to one .blend file. this way one UVmap can be used to generate all three variations without having to retexture each one. I have asked a member of the forums to texture this model for me and he accepted there will be more updates to follow the texturing process as I get them. So here is an image of the re-worked meshes and more pictures will follow when the image links start working again.

*Pay no attention the the logo on the images, I am still gathering all of my resources before I broadcast my website. It's online but not open..if that makes sense..*

Cheers,
Dave

*edit*
I can post the WIP screens for the texture. I can't wait till Jon is finished with the texture, now the trick is to get every other model to look inline with this one

* attatched is the wip screenshot *

Dave

As promised here are screenshots for the Landing pad/area. There are * screenshots showcasing two variations. The two showcased are the gun and the cargo variants. and then there is a screenshot of the scene layout.

* This is the general layout, I have a couple of different .blend files that I use for size reference.

* Notice the energy refueling columns and flat hose, I plan on adding either independant mechanical arms or a solid fixed arm for each refueling pump.

* this is the rear of the pad. If you notice the back is a flow through so personnel and equipment can be rapidly loaded on to the aircraft.

* This is the right side ofthe aircraft, I wanted to show you the ammo reloading stuff, they are the same as the refueling hoses. They have been scaled and manipulated to fit the scene better.

The landing pad and it's little ornaments is roughly 2033 triangles at the moment. I expect to add a few more (500-600 more) before it's complete.

* I managed to get it below 2000 triangles, once I edit the cylinders it should fall well blow 1700 tria's.. *

Cheers,
Dave

I think I have beat a record for the most posts in a row... can someone say "Rampage!" in a cheezy video game voice?

Here is a texture update...This ship is looking sweet!

Here is the animation that I promised to show you...I think I'm going to speed some of it up. The arm is kinda jerky at one point but that's not a big deal I can fix that tomorrow.

awesome

it was until the shot with the tanks (and a little bit from the platform) that i realised how much bigger this thing is than i expected, I'll have to re-visit some areas of the texture

cant wait to see a final scene in action. are you going to use your previous terrain? or did you loose that?

anyway, let's see this become a great game

Jon- What can I say I like 'em big...'er that is my aircraft anyway..

Moondog- I still have my terrain. I may create something just for this scene but not sure. I think I am going to take your advice and lose the tank tracks and create a plain with a scrolling texture on it..

Dave

The 'tail - I do not know the technical terminology, of the Aircraft looks strange to me. Is it two separated pieces for a special reason, or is it just the design?

You guys are doing a nice job on this. The aircraft's texture looks great so far. I want to see the whole render3 textured

Quote: "anyway, let's see this become a great game "

Will this be a game?

@mastercheif 193- Thanks man, The animation is still a little slow at the moment. I think I am going to wipe the animation data and redo it. something about the arm and the engine re-fuelers movement doesn't look right to me...any suggestions?

The story of "The tail"

When I first started designing this model it was going to be alot thinner and have only one verticle stab and no bottom verticle stab. Turns out that when I was inspecting all of my normals over half of them were flipped. I tried to fix this using the only method that I knew at the time, Which was to remove the face and re-create the face. Now that I know the errors of my way that will never happen again , so I deleted half of the first aircraft. So I created a mirror image of it and joind them. Turns out that I liked how the split tail looked and then I added the bottom verticle stabs. I think the back end looks close to a lamborghini in a way. Any way taht is the tale of the tail... so it is really due to my mess up but the design turned out very nice in the end..

Cheers,
Dave

No problem, yeah the animations seemed slow to me too.

Sorry I can't help you there I'm still in the learning to model phase and gonna be in that for a long time because I don't actually have time to practice in Blender because of school.

Now that I look at the size of this ship the animations do seem to be the right speed. I think it's the arm movement that look a tad bit off. I will fix that today but no promises..

Thanks crazy, There area few more buildings that I need to complete for that scene. Then I make them DBPro ready and insert them in to my game...well that is the plan anyways

Dave

I Started practicing my mech modeling last night. I decided to model a sentinel (Imperial guard, Warhammer 40K) The pic is attatched.

*right now it is just a leg...

Nice leg ;-P, but the part of it (see image) looks like the "fingers" couldn't move. But it's easy to add somecylinders connecting the "fingers" to "foot".

Make games, not war.

I think I'll add a few loops to the toe joint area, that should allow for the small movements required for walking.

Here is the latest texture update from Jon.

Enjoy!
