I didn't spell animé wrong, unless it's supposed to have a capital A.
I have FireFox, and the dictionary add-on says it has a widget on the e.

Quote: "Animé is an oleo-resin (said to be so called because in its natural state it is infested with insects) which is discharged from the locust tree, Hymenaea courbaril, and other species of Hymenaea growing in tropical South America.

The resin is a pale brown colour, transparent, brittle, and because of its agreeable odour is used for fumigation and in perfumery. Its specific gravity varies from 1.154 to 1.059. It melts readily over fire, and softens even with the heat of the mouth. It is insoluble in water, and nearly so in cold alcohol. It is allied to copal in its nature and appearance, and is often used by varnish makers. The name is also given to Zanzibar copal."

OK, you win lol. It IS a word though . Who put it in their mouth!!? eewwwww.
You do pronounce anime: "ah-ni-may" though don't you? That's why I thought it had a thingy (we need to find out what they're called! lol)

duno if this is will help, but when I started trying to draw anime characters, I kept trying to mimic one character and all i found that did was make it look like a 'diet-coke' version of that character, the eyes not quite right and such.

The way I got around this was by looking at loads of different anime characters, and you soon see that once you familiarise yourself with different character designs in the anime style you see their differences and similarities and you begin to 'get to grips' with the whole proportions, eyes, colours and postures so that you can express yourself in the style.

E.g.

Megaman Zero (large eyes, small build, slim, futuristic)
Prominent artists in this style: (C.L.A.M.P, The Kishimoto bros, Akira Toriyama).

Kusanagi Kyo (thin build, realism, drama)
Prominent artists in this style: (Kouta Hirano, Tetsuya Nomura, Shinkiro)

(Wikipedia should give you a list of all the stuff these guys have done).

P.S. I personally, don't recommend 'how to draw manga' books.

@TE LTD
I much prefer the Kusanagi Kyo, more artistic.
I like the slightly off proportion stuff like you see in Afro Samurai, it adds a really cool effect to the characters.

It's an accent. And anime is easier to draw than realistic. I have still to find out the difference between Manga and Anime.
