Nothing really super amazing. I had recently bought CnC3 Tib Wars and I really liked the new 3d look for Tiberium over a destroyed terrain. I thought I'd make something like that for fun. This picture started off as this:



And ended up like this:



I'll probably work on it some more eventually but I guess it could be considered "done". There are a few things I'm not totally satisfied with, but anyhow, comments and criticism are welcome.

nice atmosphere, though my attention is drawn towards the bottom right, so adding other elements to the upper left will fix that...add a vehicle or two and you got a nice war scene.

I rendered some crystals in maya 8 and created an alpha so its easier to grab for you.
I then rendered them fairly large, so you can use them at different distances.

no worries, you can even over lap them in combos and the alpha is built into the crystal transparency.

Thats cool, thanks Indi, the crstals in front of the camera in my image were rendered, just really fast and cheap. I "textured" them in PSP X. I just couldn't seem to get them to look right, so when I get a chance I will try yours out and see if I have any more luck.

Personally I feel that the godrays (if thats what they are) seem to emit from the ground instead of from above. I also feel the hill in the background should be lit better - it just seems a additional layer with dark ridge now instead of a hill in the scene.

I find the tiberium effect quite convincing, though.

Well, the rays in the sky were more meant to be like, light being cast from another crystal field, but yeah, it could look cool to put it coming from the sky too. The hill was one of those things I wasn't satisfied with, so yeah, you are right.
