Ok, first make a new document with these settings

Go to Stained Glass (Filter>Texture>Stained Glass) and set the Cell Size to 2, then set the "Border Thickness" to 1, then set Light Intensity to 3, click ok, you should have something like this

Next go to Grain (Filter>Texture>Grain) and set the intensity to 99 and the contrast to 50, make sure the grain type is set to sprinkles, now you're done!

Also, you could try using multiple layers, with different transparency. Also, Noise -> Fade Noise and playing with Tresholds can really work out very well.

This is a good technique too! Thanks for letting me know.

Nebula's are quite hard. Personally, I use lots of cloud filters, layers and brushing. Quite hard to do a good tut on those. You got a portfolio?

Mine's at www.ramiismail.com, click the link in the lower-right with the portfolio reading -> Portfolio -> Art.

@ Indi

ROFL... yes, you might say I have some issues... That site's really old though. (I have plans to update that game with current-gen graphics, so maybe I'm worse off now)

Anyhow, the only reason I posted it looked bad was because BatVink only clicked a few plugin buttons to make it. It's totally true, that image looks like a bunch of clipart. I know old Bats can do better and I wasn't criticizing him. He even said himself how easy it was to load the plugin

'Twas all in good fun

I was quite happy with how Eleven Drawings turned out (seeing they were all drawn sleepdrunk, tired, without any aids (not even something to draw straight lines past) and without any experience).

Hehe, yeah, I know about Diggers, that was just needed there for my studies acceptance (I needed to show actual experience in the field, lol). I was considering removing it. I assume this says you like the rest, very happy to hear that .

Yeah hey, linking to Greg Martin for space art is like saying, I found a tutorial on creating Deus Ex maps by Warren Spector. Ofcourse the guy got tutorials, he's in my opinion the best space artist alive.

He didn't defeat the purpose of the thread, he's helping. At a glance, that looks to be a very helpful in-depth tutorial on stars. One more resource for everyone.

I believe the purpose of this thread is to help, in this way I presented a way to create a more detailed spacefield. I'm not going to discuss this matter any further, I've done and I'll always make my contribute if I can help.
