A bigger pic might help, but the trigger/stock looks a lot blockier than the rest of the gun.

Still, better than my first model (a "black hole", scaled a torus really long and slapped a funky texture on it. ) which is still the background for my 2nd monitor...

OMG! your first models look WAY better than mine. For some reason I suck at modeling, maybe because I spend much time at Playstation. Anyway, I model swords too, I never tried to model a guns. Well I modeled a robot once.

I think they look pretty good. Expecally for your first and second model. Did you use blueprints or go freestyle with them? And the fact that they are uvmapped and textured makes them even better. A very good start, I look fowared to seeing some of your future models.

Alucard: If these are your first models, I'm very impressed. It just goes to show what can be learnt in a short space of time by following tutorials.

If you want specific, constructive criticism, you need to post your wireframe though.

And btw what is uvmapping? I hear people say it all the time but I can't figure out what it is I'm a noob so don't flame me for asking

Uvmapping is the process of unfolding your model so you can paint a texture on it in photoshop, gimp or which ever graphics program you use. Basically taking your 3d model and turning it into a 2d flat piece of paper.

Looking good, but I think you need to rely less on photographs, you have to learn to add in the extra bits and have them match your photo resources - it's the bit's you can't get from photographs that makes or breaks a texture job.

For example your shotgun - there's bit's of white background texture on it that you should really clone brush out. A lot of the time I make a base texture from a plain bit of texture, then I use that as a base for new bits of texture, like the trigger part for instance tends to be best done manually rather than trying to use a photo. The pump handle is something that you see from above and the side, so I'd suggest using a cylinder map on that, then make the wrap around texture based on your photograph, it's not a quick process but the results simply poop all over plain mapping.
It takes practice but your off to a great start, keep at it.

The meshes themselves seem damn good. If anything I'd say you need to cut down on your detail around areas that won't be seen - the shotgun handle especially, as that could be cut right down and most people would never notice.

are there any tutorial on how to make custom textures for buildings and weapons and characters? I don't really care wich software it uses, I have gotten some money back from the gouverment from taxes and stuff so I'm actually quite foundable(I have no idea what foundable means but thought it sounded good )

There's probably a lot of books on the subject, from people like Paul Stead, you could do worse than spend some money on books.
Really though it's a case of checking other peoples examples and trying to learn from them.

I strongly advise you get a program called Deep Exploration, it's great for traditional texturing, like all it really is is a model viewer and converter, but I would have it running on a second display while the primary display has the art package on it - it's a great tool for viewing your texturing work while it happens, like you save in your art package then you can instantly see the results in Deep Exploration.

Often with guns, I would use a layer or 2 for guides, 1 layer with the UV wireframe, and one extra layer for lining things up, just little lines here and there, to use as a guide when drawing textures. It helps you to orientate yourself as well, on your texture a piece could be inverted, rotated, or just awkward to work with - drawing some guides onto it will show how it looks when textured onto the mesh. It's always a good idea to plan out your texture first, by drawing your details in flat colour first so you can check them easily in Deep Exp' before drawing them properly.

There's a lot of material online for drawing textures, but I think that it'd be easier to work with a book, it's annoying trying to texture and read a tutorial at the same time, unless you can print off lots of tutorial pages instead.

never under-estimate dirt.

get a few dirt/scum/rust textures and overlay them with a very low opacity to make it look like you painted loads of detail.

however, don't do that until it looks ok just on it's own.

223 polys, It looks better without shine

To do it: 1. Create a cylinder (15 vertices)
2. select the end towards the Z (Blue arrow)
3. Extrude it
4. scale the extrusion
5. Subdivide it
6. get the inner circle and the middle point of it
7. Scale it
8. Extrude it IN
9. Select the top 2 faces on the main body of the flashlight
10.cut them across (twice but close together)
11. Extrude the parts created
12. extrude it again
13. scale the extrusion you made IN
14. Extrude it up.

Dont go scaring now...

@Dared you could go lower in poly count on your torch by making the cylinders vertices 10 and it looks the same. Because I made one with only 76 polys.

I mean that in no offense, but try using a uv mapping program cause it really helps
