I haven't used them before and was wondering exactly what they are for. I could just look at examples and figure it out for myself, but I thought this thread could help some other people too. Are they just fast ways of storing and retrieving information? Thanks

There is that, but also if they are in the right format they can be converted into images, sounds or meshes, and vice-versa. This means you can load a bitmap/sound/mesh into a memblock, mess about with the data and then convert it back to a bitmap/sound/mesh again. Some of my 20-line entries use memblocks, for an example see the screen-oriented textures, but I doubt you'll understand it particularly well.
