Hello all. I figured I would give you a quick peak at what Terraton has to offer. These pictures were taken tonight, on my crappy OpenGL PC, so don't flip out when you see that FPS, besides, I have the camera range at about 200000 to scope out the scene clearly. More will come soon. Right now, here are the features:
- Birds that fly around in the sky, tilting to the direction they fly, like real birds (just boxes right now, no models)
- Lizards that run on the ground (again, boxes)
- Fish that swim and move their tails side to side
- All of these scatter when the user gets too close to them (in the pictures, the scatter radius were set to 0 that way you could see some of them)
- Sun that rises and sets, eventually changing the ambient lighting with it, once that bug is fixed with DBPro.
- Sun Glare effect (needs coloring, I know)
- Water with glistening effect, eventually with slight reflection with Patch 5)
- Underwater bubbles and water sphere effect
- Moving clouds on sky sphere
- Up to 1000 trees at one time for now
- Rain effect
- Fogging effect
- One object inserted: A Tower

Here's the pictures:

SHOT 1 - The Sun Glare

SHOT 2 - The Water Gloss

SHOT 3 - Underwater Bubbles

SHOT 4 - Rain in the Night

You can find them at:

I really hope you enjoy looking at these as much as I had making them!
Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you,

Cheers,
Drew

thank you very much. Yes, even if temporarily it's just boxes running around hitting other boxes, I WILL finish it. I'm determined to.

The lens flare is cool, though it is a little sharp. Nice screenies!

I think the lens flare needs to be less opaque, apart from that, nice - I particularly like the water texture.

Very nice shots and underwater looks excellent.
It looks good now, but forgive me when I say I'm sceptical about the MMORPG part. It is very possible of course, just hasn't been done on a "Massive Multiplayer" scale. I know it has been done on a somewhat smaller scale, but you can set your goal wherever you want.

very funny maniac. Actually, I'm making the engine now and then deciding on the management of the game itself later. For now, my ideas are this, in order of hoping:

1. MMORPG (like EverQuest)
2. Client-to-Server Multiplayer Sections of Game (like Diablo)
3. Client-to-Client Multiplayer Arenas (like Quake)
4. Single Unit Game (like Final Fantasy 10)

Of course, the MMORPG would be one I would prefer, but the others may be a backup just in case. Luckily, I have coded the program so far in a way that all you do is load up a standard txt file of all the settings (ground height, sun location, etc.) and the engine displays the settings for you, so I could just access the txt via FTP or such when it comes time for the server-based coding. And yes, I've already started the Server program. (of course, it just outputs numbers, no graphics).

Ah ok

I should hope your server program only outputs graphics... The idea is to have the server do as much of the computing work as possible then send all the data in a tiny tiny string. Although for an MMORPG you have to figure in zones and make multiple servers and... crazy!

well im making an MMORPG that has about 15 servers that you can log into and then you have a 3D visual chat room then you can search for certain games, each type of game has its own folder in the server and each folder has a list of available games

Do you want to use this type of code its fast requires less money than an everquest style game with huge amounts of players.

use the link he gave, if that does not work copy and paste it to the top of your internet browser, and if that does not work, the server isn't working.

You could just as easily write the actual server code in a different language or even have it run minimized, without any graphics...and have the client-side DB code do all the graphics work in response to what the server sends.

It's doable on a modest scale.
