Hi I'm trying to convert an jpg image to dds, but I'ld like the "black" parts of the bmp image to be tranformed into the dds alpha color, so that I can texture an object without have to see the "black areas". I've got photoshop and the DDS plugin but when I save my image with a black background as DTX5 the black parts continue to appear...See my image

jpeg is a file format that produces a very small footprint and compresses the image and hence the colours and areas where it should look like a flat tone or colour are blended with a few pixelated shades of a similar colour.

Create two layers in photoshop

Delete the background layer.
Layer 2 your image with no data around its shape.
Layer 1 jet black.

save this as a psd for tweaking later.
export as DDS

Dont lose the psd you saved earlier so exporting and tweaking is easier if you exported wrong.
