If a mod doesn't sticky this, I think I'll drop one an email with a recommendation to, because I think now it proves to be quite useful. I will probably keep on providing them as I find them.

Thanks Seppeku you have been a great help so far, I didn't realise this would end up to be worthy of a sticky.

Well it's something I've bookmarked and it contain numerous resources people can refer to and I wouldn't think a set of resources should float down to the bottom.

I'm surprised you haven't got Softimage|Mod Tool up there as one of your free programs, here is the link:

http://www.softimage.com/products/modtool/getmod.aspx

Can export .x but is limited to mods and non-commercial use. .X has a problem, luckily Cattle Rustler has made a tool to fix that problem:

Just changed the tutorials category to 3d tutorials, so I'll add a graphic tutorial category now, and people can post photoshop, gimp etc. tutorials if they want.

@Fluffy

I've put descriptions by the modelling programs for your convenience, I've put easy to use by some of them and I have two categories, free modelling programs and priced modelling programs. I'll see about marking them to show whether or not they export .x, but it might take a bit of time to research.

Hope that helps

@JimB And Sloan

Thanks guys, added.

@Fluffy

Well, everyone has different tastes. I haven't tried many free programs, but have a go at Art of Illusion, it doesn't look extremely easy, but if you can get the hang of it, there are great features in it that you can use. If you want to start simple though, go for Softimage|XSI Mod Tool.

Hope that helped.

P.S.

Anyone have any bugs with posts being deleted partially? because I know for a fact that there was a lot more free programs up in the list before.

The new Carrara 6 Pro now supports .x import and export.

Also check out Hexagon as an easy to use modeler.

Wings 3D ftw? It's a fairly simple program, everything you absolutely need to do for modeling is accessed in a simple right click menu I <3 W3D
