firstly sorry if this is in the wrong place but i couldn't find anywhere beter.

I think alot of people are entering the retro remakes comp at http://www.remakes.org and as i started programming too late to enter the dark basic only retro comp(i had only just bought db when the comp had nearly finished)i would like to enter too. but i have a problem being only 14 i wasn't even alive when the 'retro' games were around so i have no memories of any games i enjoyed that aren't famous eg pacman, space invaders etc. so i was wondering if someone could give me an idea? it sounds lame but if someone could briefly outline a retro game that isn't very well known i would very much like to make it. i've been searching on google for retro game listings+descriptions and can't find anything.
thanks

you could try emulated games of old consoles

an emulator is a program which makes it possible to run those old games who were grabbed from those cartridges

such a game is called a ROM

you can search google on 'ROMS' or 'emulation'...

there are emulators and roms for various systems like ps, game boy, nintendo 8-bit, super nintendo, sega game gear, sega genesis, ...

I just did a quick search and here you have a site where you can download some emulators, maybe there are roms on that site to but I'm not sure...
http://www.familydomain.com/gametown/

I'm making a remake of the original sega version of the game 'out run'

you can just download a commodore and those games
in fact you have to delete those downloaded roms after 24 hrs or they are illegal
but I just keep them, anyway those games arent sold anymore (not as a new product) so companies like sega wont miss that money

I'm just searching the net right now

you could try searching kazaa or another p2p program, you might find for example a zip file with 500 nintendo roms

Dude, an emulator isnt even close to the real thing. A real Commodore 64 is having true power. Or an Amiga.

indeed when you have a real commodore it might have something magical, but with a good emulator you wont see any difference (except that its not on a television screen and that you don't have the real controllers)

but anyway if you just fastly want to make a retro game... redeye might learn to like those games by testing emulated versions and afterwards buy a real commodore or nintendo or sega system

if you're 14 like me you've still been around for the NES games, right? do one of those. i remade one called Mario Bros. and stick with one all the way; you don't want to change your mind when you've already got engine of another game started. i stayed with mine long wnough, and i even got internet play into it!

Well, you can also try to do a realistic Commodore 64 game, pretty realistic : The loading should last at least an hour (that was for those who used cassettes)
Beside during this loading, the screen should change color sometimes, all 3 or 5 seconds. Two additionnal supplies to get it like the original game, should be the fact, that it breaks down if you touch keys, and that sometimes it breaks down, if you don't touch anything.

IF INKEY$() = 0 THEN SLEEP 1000
