I started this level about 2 days ago and just added bits every hour and again. I have a plot developing in my head for a full game and will start on if you guys like this level. It's horror, and yes zombies.

It's Based after world war II you were driving on the road. When suddenly your jerks uncontrolaby, you drive into a garden and crash into the wall, lookily your not hurt but the car is badly damaged. You look across the garden and see a mansion. Turning round you relise you can't see the road, theres a wall where you came in, confused you have no choice but to advance into the house.

The Level is very very short, I just want to know what you think of the design, C and C welcome. Here it is...

Can you please tell me where the keys to the doors are? I've had a look around but couldn't find anything. From what I saw, the design was pretty poor.

The lightmapping was minimal. Lighting can make or break a game, don't skimp on lighting effects. Lower you're ambient light level, and place a lot more intricate lights.

Try and make some custom media. Nobody likes to see a game that they could throw together in a few minutes with FPSC straight from the box. A custom wall at the start showing it destroyed and smashed up would look a LOT better.

Change the colour of the fog, white doesn't do it for me. Choose a darker brown colour or something.

Thanks for crit, Key 1 is in the fire place. Key 2 is on the drawer in the locked room. I think the lighting is crap because my screen is set too bright. I will add some more lights. And I will add some cracks to the wall texture like you suggested. Thanks.

Right well, I found the keys.

Why don't you model a broken wall, rather than texture one? It will look a lot more convincing considering a car is supposed to have crashed into it.

The letter was a nice touch, but my key piece of advice for people wanting to make games is:

How can you expect to finish a game if you don't put the effort into making custom media?

Custom media is the difference between your game and everyone else's. Anybody can throw a level together with the stock media that comes with FPSC.

Download and play around with the following programs:

Anim8or, a free modeling program.
LithUnWrap, a free UV mapping program.
The GIMP, free texture program.

Google them and look at a few tutorials. It doesn't take long but it will make your games look a heck of a lot better.

Shadow Blade, if you're after horror sounds, there's a small pack of mine on xplosys site.

Sorry, but I disagree, it's how the media is put together that makes a good game.
