I've downloaded Wings 3D and installed it, but when I try to run it a window titled 'Erlang' Appears and the wings 3d program appears, but then an error message comes up and both the windows are closed. This happens all the time.
Can anybody help please?
Thanks
Robin

Did you try reinstalling it all?

"Erlang" is like the language it was written in, its like an emulator for running Wings3D. I had a problem when I first installed it where it crashed and whatnot. That was a long time ago, so I dont know what I did. But,.. im guessing I probably just reinstalled it all, as I am usually too dense to figure these things out.

Sorry for that extremely useless post :/
Ash.

Make sure you've also got the latest version, or any updates there might have been.

The Erlang window is normal. You aren't trying to close it are you? That would probably screw things up.

Thanks in advance.

Yeah of course, the Erlang window must remain opened.

Wings3D is mostly compatible with pure openGL and not all cards will run it fine.

That said,I never had any problem on either of my Riva128ZX,Radeon series and OxygenVX-1

What kind of accelerator you got?

I guess it's bye bye time for either Wings3D or your integrated chipset.

Upgrading for better performance nowadays is VERY cheap.

You can have a Radeon for 40$...That is a very low price if you compare the 400$ I paid for my Oxygen 5 years ago...Still runs OpenGL games fine but I'm going for a WildcatIV soon...Well as soon as they get under 1000$

What operating system do you use? I had an integrated chipset 16mb s3 pro savage 4 or something and it worked perfectly. Maybe you need to download the latest driver for it.

Check out the wings forums on CGTalk, there's about one new compile/week.

I've got windows XP PRO...might have something to do with it but then again wings didn't work on my old pc which had windows Me...so i suppose that it isn't to do with the windows...

my pc is about three weeks old and i've installed the drivers off the motherboard cd, which are the latest ones but it still doesn't work...

i'll try downloading the latest version of wings...but i'm also getting a new graphics card (a 32mb nvidia tnt2) anyway in a weeks time so maybe it will work then...i know i've got 32 mb graphics at the moment, but its a chipset which are pretty bad, hopefully because the new one is an actual graphics card, it'll be better and could work...

thanks
Robin

oh well...
Does anyone know about any other free modelling programs. I know about:
-Anim8or
-Doga
-JTEdit
-Aztec
-Wings

Can you get cinema 4d for free - isn't there something like a public lite edition...and truespace 3 too - isn't that free as well?

If you know of any others, please let me know.
Thanks
Robin

FGS use a search engine there's litterally hundreds of 3d modelers and alot of them are free and open source.

This is not personal but...

...about every month, someone comes here ans asks ;'Could you please name all the modelers in the world I can't decide or search?'

Search string '3d modeler' (really!)

That maybe true, but in an indipendant study, Google was the only major search engine that wasn't getting payed to place certain sites higher than they should be.
