And if so, how can you get your poly counts down to use the models for 3DS and X formats?

Thru a friend, I have access to 3DS, but its simplification filters can only get Poser exports down to about 16,000 polys.

Well...... take a screeny of your poser model in FRONT view + SIDE view + BACK view .... and then load the screeny into something like Milkshape - Cinema4D - Wings - Max etc etc as a background ref pic ... and make youself a low poly version.

Poser is just NOT for low poly stuff

I have to admit, I didn't even think of that. Best tricks are the little tricks -- duh! Just use the Poser render as background in a 3DS viewport . . .

Too focused on exporting the model directly . . .

Thanks.

Yeah, Poser is not for low poly -- but it makes people sooooooo easily.

Another option is to use multi-res. This will filter your model to any percentage of polygons. SO you can reduce your poser model to twwo polygons if you so wish! But I find between 1000-2000 gives a fairly good result.

Saying this I do now prefer to create a model from scratch usingr a Poser model as reference. You could load the poser model in and "Freeze" it, so you can build the new model around the frozen 3D one. "Freeze" meaning it stays in the 3D views but you can't edit it.

Yeah freeze does that in some application such as Maya or Max where it is the action to 'lock' the object while in some others, such as SI|3d or Xsi, it's the term used for the action of clearing the transform history of a 3d object...

Anyways, modeling over the locked object may be a good idea,in fact that's how Steed does it using splines though, but ultimately, you'll want to model those clothes and hair or other accessories WITHOUT any rference except for proportions...The model becomes MUCH more interesting and personalized this way.
