One question - when is DB1.14 finally coming out? And when (or rather if) it does, will it have error handling? Automatic DLL support? 64bit? An option that allows you to start the program in Windowed mode, instead of fullscreen and then switching to windowed mode??? Please - could someone just tell me when DB1.14 is coming out? I don't want to switch to DBPro just yet!

It is very unlikely 1.14 will ever come out. Sorry!

If you want updates then DBPro is your man.

I would put it like this...Microsoft won't ever be updating Office 97, because they want you to buy the latest version, and they don't want to invest time in a product that has been superceded.

Thanks in advance.

no, you're wrong, dbp isn't a shit
it's faster than dbc, the graphisms are better (just try to make a textured matrix with dbc and dbp ..), and there are so many commands so great
load bsp for example is very very very good, I really love it
if I had to choose dark basic pro or a girl that I love (she's beautiful !!), I would choose dbp

did i miss something... when did DBP become different to DB?
last time i checked it was the same syntax, did patch5 get released whilst i was in the bog and it changed this?

as for p1.14 well we can expect it between now and never.
we've asked for an update, and i guess its upto DBS if they actually provide it.

using the logic
Quote: "Microsoft won't ever be updating Office 97, because they want you to buy the latest version, and they don't want to invest time in a product that has been superceded."

is kinda stupid ... Office97 was updated by mircosoft until OfficeXP was released because the shops stopped selling it.

however DB & Enhanced still sell strong (according to Rich anyways) ... if they're still selling strong then really the comercial aspect would be to still update it.
The reason they don't is because they have literally 2/3 programmers for the actual language, if they had double that then i wouldn't doubt we'd see DB still being updated - but really they just don't have the resources to put thier attention on both, and you must admit that DBP is in more need of patchs than DB

until now I haven't seen any bugs in the last DBC version... anyone who does?
if not, why do you want a patch then? for more features? that's DBP...

I like DBC 1.13 Enhanced just fine.

It isn't the fastest, prettiest, or most feature-packed language available, but it's still a fun toy to play with. I use it mainly as the 3D equivalent to Windows Notepad.

I haven't bought DarkBasic Pro yet because it's still being sorted out. Color me conservative, but if someone wanted to sell me a car and said "The engine dies randomly, the wheels tend to fall off for mysterious reasons, and the gas mileage isn't consistent, but for all that it's a wonderfully fast and beautiful car for an extremely affordable price", I'd laugh myself blue and tell him to come back when they've sorted out the problems. Don't flame me, I was taught to be responsible with my money.

But eventually I'll probably buy DB Pro. Eventually. Like around when the amount of bug complaints on the forum drop to nil or are primarily chair-to-keyboard interface issues.

Anyway, 1.13 Enhanced's quite stable and pretty expandable with the memblocks and DLL support, if you don't mind having a graphical feature set that's circa 1999 at best. I don't really see much of a point to updating it...after all, if you need something that 1.13 Enhanced can't offer, then the obvious solution is to buy DB Pro or migrate to a different package that offers the features you need.

The main reason why I want DB1.14 is because i only have about £200 pocket money and I'm saving for a £300 camcorder! I've bought DarkBasic before - now do I have to buy another thing? And what'll be after that? DarkBasic Pro+?

I think you can update, or pay less for a full pro version when you send them the cover of the manual that came with the DB version you bought.

Do you really expect a shocking difference when there's an evolution from v1.13 to 1.14? I don't think so. I even don't see the difference between v1.0 and 1.13...

LOL..ROLF...So true!!

DBC is just fine for 99.9% of things, and when they iron out DBP I will be getting it myself, but not right now.
And I think Raven is right in the point that if they had more people working on it you may get a 1.14 upgrade, but I would save your money anyway and wait till Pro is done.

Ta ta for now

Yeah, I agree, DBC's just fine for a lot of things.

'Specially retro stuff or off-the-wall stuff that won't be immediately compared to the latest AAA titles with all their fancy graphical whoosiswhatsits. The trick to it all is simply not to force it to do anything it isn't easily capable of.

I honestly think a big part of the reason why people get frustrated with DBC is because they keep trying to make it do things that it doesn't do natively, and of course it isn't gonna do very well. But when you work within its native capabilities, and design your game within those capabilities, DBC is a really fun and useful tool.

Lol!

Do that and you will see that DBC is better than Pro... for the moment at least. DBPro's Prepare Matrix Texture doesn't work properly yet.

Roll on Patch 5!!

What's version 1.13?
I bought DB just couple of weeks ago with the DarkMatter and the Enhancement. I installed Enhancements and at the end it askes if I want to upgrade DB to version 1.10. I click 'Yes' and I get error could not upgrade - unknown DB version.
When open DB, enhancements are loaded and it says DarkBasic version 1.12 Enhanced.
Don't I have 'the latest and the greatest'?
What's version 1.13?

1.12 had some serious compatibility bugs with WindowsXP particularly Professional - 1.13 solved these and a few of the GeForce2 Static Object problems

The classic DB is much better than the DBPro.

1, Bugfixed - there are a lot of bugs in the pro. When will be that an usable lannguage? After the 54365876. patch? I'm waitig for patch 5.

2, Easier debug - the pro's debugger wrties that which line contains the error. If my program has a lot of functions,I will never find the error.

3, If I run the program, te DBC doesn't create exe, but the dbpro does. Slower.

OK, the pro is faster, but that's the only advantage of it.

DBPro, IMHO (and many others) Is MUCH more powerful than DB Classic. It has MANY more commands, it is MUCH faster, supports MANY more things, and is still being updated.

They will be no DBC updates, Lee has already said this several times.

Do you want Windows menus in your DBP apps? - Get my plugin: http://snow.prohosting.com/~clone99/downloads/tpc_menus_103.zip

if you want to try to have a sync rate over 1000, you might achieve this when you use sync rate 0

perhaps a better question would be why considering that DB Standard/Enhanced is capped to 100fps

Well Im lockin this up for now. Seeing as the whole post is completely off topic, and it has been said over and over again that DBC will NOT be updated, I dont see much of a point for this thread to go on.

Other mods, if I stepped outa line here, unlock it
