Hey,

I'm taking a break from my main character and coding..accuatlly I'm blowing off steam from DBPro.. . So I decided to model a sword. So I decided on a Roman Gladius, and eventually I decided to give a fantasy twist. For those of you how don't know what a gladius is, it was the mainstay of the Roman Legions next to their pilums. It's a short thrusting sword with a strenghtened tip designed for sholder to shoulder fighting. Not for slashing or the like it's made to thrusting..stabbing. It's now the Elven Gladius [b])

It weights in at 376 polys I believe, and is untextured. It took 20 minutes to model and 10 to thin out extra faces. Here's some screenies:

http://silvermoonstudios.netfirms.com/EV_1.jpg
http://silvermoonstudios.netfirms.com/EV_2.jpg
http://silvermoonstudios.netfirms.com/EV_3.jpg

And its here:
http://silvermoonstudios.netfirms.com/ElvenGladius.3ds

It's here for anyone that wants to use it..if you think it's too high poly..tough. It's your now, edit it as you see fit. And if you have a heart at least give me a honorable mention in the credits...for atleast being a smartass and giving you a free 'swerd' model

If you feel like critiqueing it..go ahead waste your breate and time. It's not here to be torn apart by ego pushers.(I'm not accusing anyone..yet, or even asking for critique).) So enjoy it if you want to...or just close the page..either way It won't change my life that much either way

It should have UV coordinates in it, if anyones interested. It was SIMPLE to break apart and UV mapp in lightwave. So I'd expect it be easy in Luthinwrap or what ever you werid people use

That probably won't work, because every page on his web host has a banner at the top.

Thats pretty good, apart from there is a hole in the model, in the handle on one side. One of the faces appears to be missing, maybe you accidentely deleted it before you posted it, you probably want to fix it.

Its' not broken Check to see if the that missing face isnt just turned the wrong way. Apart from that, I cant find any holes. I hope you enjoy

Nice model,...wel I think you could save some polygons...but thats just my opinion

I think that sword which legions used is called also hispanic sword here...
and friend who saw authentic replica sad thats preatty heavy for hove small it looks like...

I was also reading somewere lot of time ago that it could be used for slashing but legionaries were teached to not do it because stabbing tooks les time and save them few seconds which can save them life in heat of battle.

Yes...your right. I did it mainly to waste time, and as a quick modelling exercise. I got my information from a book called 'The archaelogy of Weapons'(Misspelled I know). It's an incredible informative book covering weapon evolution from the earlerest BC. Basically the Roman legions carried: A pilum, a Gladius, and a tower shield.

They fought sholder to shoulder with their tower shields forming a wall. Any sword can be used for slashing, most of the earlier BC swords which were designed for thrusting, have been found broken at the hilt because of it being used for the wrong purpose. When the roman legions came within range of the enemy they threw their pilums forward, either killing their oppenent or thier pilums be came lodged in their shields, denining them of their protection.

Anywayz..my Gladius is Elven..that makes it special!! Cut and thrust all you want to in your game world!!!
