i despise the whole "assigning vertexes to joints" thing plus i cant get it right anyway, so is there a way to animate in milk w/o bones?

Nope, don't think so. Bone based animation is real useful if you want two models to do the same animation, I would find some good tutorials for it. You'll be hard pressed to find a game made with out the use of bone animation now days.
