Its not free, But TGC sells it.(or go to http://www.underwaredesign.com/)

You'll probably be horrified to hear its a programming language though.

Oh, there's a highly informed opinion.

The number of gun names you know is a good measure of how much of an arrogant cock you are.

You couldn't be more correct MonoCoder...

Anyway, on a more serious note, I recommend you to just take the leap into programming. at the beginning you might have like "AAGHGGHHG" but when you get used to it, You can do alot you can't do with those drag and drop things.

My project, site is far from done though.

Game Maker has a coding language that is actually very capable of making interesting games. It's also not free. 20$ american money for the regestered version... otherwize you can't even rotate a sprite.

However, I stray from saying "what's better" because it's a matter of opinion.

SO STOP THE STEREOTYPES!!!!
(I only get angry because I code in GML)

I think it is more of a matter of which is more powerful. I wouldn't know about GML, but I know for sure that DB or DBP can be very, very powerful.

I just learned that GML is an interpeted language not machine code like DBPRO. GML is just the same as dbc but with less functions.

Tip Of The Day!: a new rouge anti-virus has risen in 2008 called xpantivirus 2008 don't download this. Please help spread the word.

Just like any other language, it just has a simpler newbie program attached to it.

I just read GM's tutorial yesterday and understand how to make a basic game in a room now. To be honest, I think game maker's more suited to 2d than db. However, if you want power, db is the way to go.

BUT, I believe game maker should be used by every newbie here to understand what their game <i>editor</i> should look like, in order to make clean code and keep good habits.

I'm going to use GM tomorrow to create an educational demo and try to rewrite the way a certain game is made. Then, if all goes well, I'll take the effort and use Darkbasic pro. I'll let you guys know how well the transition goes.

(and I really just browsed these forums to find that guy that put up game graphics for sale...)

I have used GML since version 5.3 in 2002, so I've had extensive knowledge in making basic 2D games.

I've been adviced multiple times to switch to a more advanced language, such as C or Java, so I decided to start moving on. GML is great for the growing/low-level game designer, but it lacks any real functionality in 3D games. (Some, but not very much. I have seen some effective 1st-3rd person games...)

I still, on occassion, create demos on GM for myself what I want my games in DB to look like, but I stopped making full fledged games for GM a while back.

(I think Greycol was my last completed title, currently working on something much bigger ^^)

Game Maker is designed for beginners into the games industry. It is basicly revolved around 2D games, but can also be programmed to initialize 3D graphics, but not as good features as Crysis or UT3 etc. It features an alpha blending option, which is set in the object properties and scripts. I would give it a 8.9|10

For 2d, I give it a 10/10, its powerful, fast and can make professional games.
For 3d, I give it a 2/10, just because it has functionality.

My fave choice by far for 2d. 3d is a totally different story.

And dont say "for beginners" that is a really annoying and stupid steriotype.

Ah, yes it was me. The place I hang out the most is Yoyogames. Other than the instant play and the support and the noobish spammers, it's a wonderful place.

DarkGDK is hard but it has some very neat features
RPG Maker XP is extreamly easy, you can do nice games with it, but you can do just an Zelda-like RPG.
Game Maker is between these two and it also has some cool features, like sprite editing.
.......hope I helped
