I'm kind of new to Dark Basic so bare with me. I've been trying out the DBPro demo, and I want to load one of my 3D Max 4.0 models into the program. I exported the .3ds models, and even converted them into .x files. However, when I

LOAD OBJECT "char.x",1
POSITION OBJECT 1, 4,1,4

The model is shown on the screen, but it looks as if all of the pieces of the model are repositioned inside one another, and some of the pieces look inverted, and others look completely flat?

In Studio Max the model, looks... good. So I'm wondering what am I doing wrong, and is there any step either in exporting or designing that I can ensure that what I see in 3D Max, is what I get as my final model?

Also note: I made the Helmet / Shield / Armor / Sword... etc as seperate files and Merged them into the file with the person. Is that the cause of all my proplem? And if so... there must be someway to merge files and still be able to use it...?

Try making a light source, it MAY help.

Another thing, it may be because DBPro goes directly to 600x440 (I think) mode..Try changing that, and it should look better.

It looks like the helmet is scaled down and the rest looks like backface problems

well unfortunately you can't change that apart from upgrading the resolution.

However i'd suggest you make sure fullscreen-desktop is turned off, because it ruins the graphics due to its pixel stretching.

It is.

Don't merge scenes,I believe merged scenes data is only understood by the proprietary format in most software, just export the pieces out and re-import them.

I was about to talk about my bad experience with ms3d's merge scenes as it messes up the vertice numbers but...Y'know lol! @_@

Modeling Tip of the Week:Smooth-Shading is an approximation of Shadows defined by the tension between two vertice.

If I've seen it all before, why's this bus taking me back again? @_@

Right, this method works in Max5 but im not sure if it'll work in max4 but here goes...

Select all of the objects (excluding lights, bones etc.) and in the utilities section, select resetxform option and select the reset selected button. Then convert everything to an editable mesh (this removes physique/skin so you'll have to do them again).

3ds is crap so download the panda x exporter (get it from http://www.maxplugins.de) and export your model to .x and your done

Note: if your object has no animation then the animation and bone options should not be selected, otherwise dbpro will crash when loading the model, dont know why though.

Hope this helps

Hey thanks for all the good tips... I had a feeling it may have involved the merging of the files. I will try both exporting and importing... as well as the resetxform option.

Thanks again...
