3 Dimensional Chat / Texturing In 3d max

Hi all, i got 3d studio max (3.1 releas) to be exact.
I don't know HOW to texture in max, but i know where the menu is but it is so dang complecated.

The only thin i can texture with is with the basic colors like red, black, blue and so on. And with alot of other optins!

How do you texture?????

Doesn't it come with a manual? The amount 3ds max costs you would expect it to show you how to use it.

No, the dang prog did not have a manual OR a friggin help fils SIG!!!

press 'Y' ... it'll bring up the icon bar (i hate using the modifier menu) if you look on the Modifier Tab at the end you'll see 2 checkered Icons, those are your UV Map Icons - first is the general mapping the second is the edit of the mapping coords.

What do u use max 3 , max 4 or max 5?

i've used all three and it is identical in all three to get these functions... however the actual "edit uvw" works a little different in each

I pride myself that i don't kill...

Ok, i found out how to texture the models. But when i save the model in autodesc (.3ds) and load it agen,then the texture cannot be seen POOF not there....

What is wrong?

make sure you export with "preserve max uvmaps" checked.
also make sure your texture is within the same directory and names in 8.3 format as the export

The only way that would have happened is if you did NOT buy the software. Every package comes with a giant manual, and tons of help files...
