There are some x10 graphics cards below $100.Now that the even newer series of x cards are out the price of the Nvidia 8000 series (and its ATI equivilant whatever that may be) are dropping.

Please have mercy and use the search function.

If you have a laptop, then you need the mobile series (M).
So the 8600M GT would be the substitute for the 8600 GT, in laptops that can handle it.
(I hear rumors of an 8900m too)

And don't forget the 9 series that are out now for your desktops!

I am not familiar with Acer Laptops, so you may want to ask their support team which one will work with your model.
If you want the 8600, then get the one with the most memory that is within your budget.
In the price examples you gave; the $20 to double the memory is a no brainer...do it!

Don't get a 1GB, a 8600GT won't even use half of it. 512 or 256MB models will be fine.

Was about to say the same infact any card right now will not make use of the full 1gig unless of course you run insane res like 2048x2048 or more...

However 256mb is cutting it a wee bit close X10 will eat it for lunch dinner and snacks in between...

But wait a bit 8XXX series cards should drop in price when the 9800x2 and 9800 is released.

The 8600GTS sux badly get your self a 8800GS much better not sure in which price range it would fall

It all comes down to features used, AA level, resolution, and AF levels.

Please watch your language.

Back on topic...
s4real posted a thread on how he was able to use the 8600 and it worked for him quite nicely.
It really does depend on what you have turned on.

You could always resell it back on eBay if it is the wrong one.
You'll only lose shipping, and the listing fee, if you use a reserve.
If you get lucky it may sell for a profit, but that depends on how good of a deal you got on it.

Yeah, my 8800gt only has 512mb, and it seems to work great.

If you have a pci slot those cards I posted SHOULD work. But I would google them and check out reviews, performance and such before I bought one.
I know if you buy from Tiger Direct they have an 800 number where someone can help you.I don't know about the others.
I am going to buy the x10 card and upgrade my pc to Vista (and probably overheat the heck out of my computer). My next rig I am building by hand piece by piece and make a create a monster...or a disaster...
