i get an error if i try to run a program, even if i create a exe..
system error: surfaces can not be created(...000.& direct3d hal) failed to create a
d3d device from backbuffer surface

i'm using xp, with a 3d rage pro 8meg vid card, i updated direct x to 9, but it didn't work on 8 either

any ideas?

thx ziggy
edit:
i've tryed updating the vid driver and it shuts the system down! it won't run any of the demo games, the newest DB demo wouldn't work either (tryed demo first, before the full version) , i'm running v1.09 with the update

don't listen to geri, he/she is a spaz...
DBP doesn't suck, it's still in an early stage.

anyways, using XP is your problem to begin with. i cannot stress this enough.

also, having 8M isn't helping you either. in fact you should be ashamed of yourself... j/k

I get the exact same hardware and the same error (only Windows 2000). It IS because it doesn't support '3D at 640x480x16', and DB always starts up in 3D at that resoloution NO MATTER WHAT. Change your hardware or go Pro (the Pro demo worked for me )
