Ah yes, StarWraith is a DB success story we commonly reference here.

I wonder if I could make a commercially successful game out of my SkyCars game...

Thanks for the support, mattman. I'll look into it perhaps, but I'll need to add a lot more to it first. I'm considering v1.0 (the current version) the first stable shareware (and freeware at this point) release of the game.

Your game is incredible, I have to admit, it's an excellent game and I commend you for such an excellent effort!
There is only one problem. To be perfectly honest, I doubt that no matter how good your game is, it will never be as popular as the proffesional publishers games, simply because it just isn't a proffesional title. Now don't get me wrong, what you have done it excellent, but unless we get some big game company names interested in our work, we will never make the big time, and that is unlikely to happen I believe because they are very skeptical of newcomers, unless what the person has created is truely revolutionary. It will always remain truely a hobby, and nothing more.

@ DarkShadow

spending way too much time designing HTML websites (with strange flags) before you post, huh. An easy way to get past that is to remember that coffee in the morning if you spend that much time doing HTML.

Unfortunately, a free web-server wasn't among the topics discussed here. Next time be less blunt when introducing a new question inside a thread. I know nothing about web-servers other than spam is annoying, and geocities hates me.

Monkey your game is great. I would approach a publisher with it, the worst they can say is, "No, not as it stands, but add this or this"

There is nothing like having your product sold. I know this from experience in seeing software I was part of creating getting sold. You will jump for joy. Hell out of the 12 copies that sold, we had a party, dinner or something. But each copy sold for $65k.

If a game that I made sold 12 copies I would still jump for joy. 1 copy or a million copies, its still an accomplishment.

I know I would buy Sky Cars for my little neices and newfews if they had a computer, the older ones, alas are into FPS, or Xbox, PS2.

Thanks for the support people (even thought this isn't exactly my thread - kinda stole it )!

@ Dreadlox: You're probably right. But it wouldn't hurt to try to make a hobby into something a little more. Even if I fail to make any revenue, at least I've had fun.

@ Ag3nt: Yeah, or a good solid RLG!

@ DarkShadow: <b>Thank you for the compliments</b>
I'm big on freeware as well. Most of my media will remain freeware, but I'll try to get somewhere further with this particular title.<br />
Free webservers are kinda unprofessional, but you can cover that up usually with a .tk domain (http://www.tk)<br />

@ David89: I may even self-publish rather than pitch the thing around aimlessly. Will see...

@ Mattman & Hell Forged Angel: I'm glad you don't see any bugs. However, I've ran into a bucketfull of them in v1.0! Yes, this will need to be very spiffy before I consider selling it.

@ falelorn: Perhaps I'll pitch it about a bit, but it would be nice if I could do it myself (though I don't expect to get as much of a response this way). What program did you sell, btw, that would cost $65k? You'd actually buy SkyCars huh? Well perhaps I'll just have to enhance and sell it then .

Hahaha, you sound like like one of those corporate hawkers that we all love to make fun of.

Yeah, forums are good, spiffy, nice, cool, benign, whoopass, etc... go there, like he said!

Gosh, I feel bad for kind of dominating this thread...

The program was a wireless communication package that allowed people in the field send data from a palm pilot, laptop, pocket PC, etc. over a satellite phone, or cell phone to home base.

The whole package wasnt just software, it was servers, software and customization to. If you have ever dealt with MS on a large basis you know they nail you for seatss, and nail you good.

We used Microsofts Mobile Information Server with Sharepoint Server, and tied the whole thing in with a wireless network throught our local cell network called Telus. (Which suck totall ass btw if your ever in Canada stay away from them for data/cell networking)

To bad the company I worked for was basically being run by morons and had the money spent before we could improve the product, and keep it up to date. Now there are a ton of similar products.

65k sounds like alot but in reality it isnt. When your dealing with time sensitive information for a pipleline or mining operation, and you need information sent now, 65k is nothing when one day down is several million dollars.

And im not saying you could sell it for 60USD, but 5 or 10. The only 2 complaints I have about it, is the the spinning ship takes to long at the main screen. And my slow reflexes could use an easier game hehe.

Garage Games is probally where I would start. Show them the game, go from there.

Anyone know how many copies of StarWraith have been sold ?

@ Hell IVIonkey - Your game is quality (if a little hard!). Maybe send your URL to some mags to get some publicity.
