So, Basically I have a good pc, and I downloaded a game made with FPSC X10. It runs absoloutely terrible! It is mostly fps in the 20s but it drops down to about 10 on alot of areas. I wouldn't think performance would be THAT bad. So anyone want to help me?
My specs - AMD Phenom 9500, 4GB Ram, ATi 3870 X2 1GB, Vista Ultimate 64bit. Drivers are Catalyst 8.3 with the latest hotfix

EDITED: What is your Graphics card? Since I'm not familiar with ATI, did you get a cheap card or something?

The 3870 X2 is the highest single card soloution other thna the 9800GX2 which beats it slightly. The card was $450, and plays every gmae on max. I also get random Blue Screens(hud still appears) while playing, and cant do anything till I quit it. And, I can see some boxes through walls as a shadow that goes straight down..

I feel your pain, I started out about a year ago with a EVGA Geforce 8800 GTS 320 series video card and that worked fine with X10 and a couple of months ago I decided to do a total upgrade on my PC so I bought a new Gigabyte AM2+ motherboard with a AMD 7 series chipset , Phenom 9500 Quad core CPU , 4 gigs or PC 8500 Ram and a new Zotac 8800 GT 512 video card and X10 ran way better, So a couple of weeks later I read an article about how great AMD’s Spider Platform was suppose to be, So I thought I would give it a try because I already had the motherboard with the 7 series chipset and the Phenom Quad core CPU and the only thing I needed to make my Spider Platform complete was a ATI 3800 series video card , so I found a good deal on a Diamond Viper HD 3870 series video card, installed it with the lasted drivers Catalyst 8.3 and the patch, with the latest Direct X March 2008 and the latest drivers for my mother board and sound as well , not to mention I had also flashed 2 new Bios’s for my motherboard along the way also, So I tried out my new Spider Platform and I was very disappointed with the performance , my frame rates were higher playing games when I had the 8800 GT installed, And when I ran X10 with the HD 3870 installed I got bad shadows if I had more than 3 characters in a room at the same time and the performance was just poor compared to the 8800 GT. So the Spider Platform isn’t what it’s all cracked up to be, maybe it will good one day with newer drivers but right now it sucks. So now I’m back using the 8800 GT

I've always been a ATI and AMD person for a long time, I still have several ATI All in Wonder Radeon cards like 7500, 9200, X1800 in my basement on my computer parts shelve along with a Radeon 9700 Pro, but the new ATI (AMD) 3870 and 3870 X2 video cards look really good on paper but in real life they don't perform as well as they should. If you search the web and look for reviews you will find they don't perform as well as the Nvida cards of the same class, I've used both and there is a big difference between them right now, I think the poor performance is driver related. Even the 3870 X2 performs about the same as single core 9800 GTX or 8800 Ultra in this review

still, it performs great for me with everything EXCEPT FPSCX10. Crysis, Assassins Creed, Any game that is superior visual or spec wise, runs perfect, yet FPSC X10 runs as if it were near a slideshow. I'm thinking the X10 team didn't put much thought into ATi Users?

And Chupa cabra, Depending on the situation, it is a little better or a little worse than an 8800 Ultra or 9800GTX.
Yay! my posts don't have to be verified anymore finally

Anyway, So. FPSC team, PUT ATI USERS IN MIND!
AMD/ATi is still great, the 3870 X2 still in most circumstances outpreforms the 9800GTX and 8800 Ultra, and is only a little behind the 9800 GX2.

Well, I must say that I tested some things on ATI cards, and they are all bad. Terrible if I may say so. FPSC crashes randomly on it or just won't run.

FPSC X10 was made in co-operation with Nvidia, and was only tested and made to work for Nvidia cards.

I say that's a little messed up...that sucks that ati users are forced to miss out on FPSCX10.

Prince OF Darkness, what else did you test? The only thing running bad for me was FPSC X10, i haven't tried the origional FPSC with this card.

yes, i have ati 3870 hd card, and fpsc x10 hardly works well on it. But the performance is greatly enhanced whenever I turn off the shadows. No more random crashes and good framerate.

just try turning off the shadows.

Ok, I'll try that out and see how it goes.

edit- nope, still runs near a slideshow.

I do sincerely hope that TGC addresses this issue with ATI cards as I have one as well.
While it is nifty to say that only the Nvidia card owners should be able to use FPSC there are others that make Direct X 10 compatible cards and by not addressing this TGC cuts themselves out of profit as all of those with ATI or other non Nvidia cards won't buy/be able to use it.
I have no trouble running anything else on my pc and anything else I have tried to play has ran just fine as long as I don't get carried away with the game's settings.
Everything looks pretty except for FPSC.
Even with my card's settings to max FPSC doesn't run any slower (as long as you limit the use of bloom and other fancy effects...I have found a little bloom is nice and won't hurt your performance whereas turning the bloom up until it looks like you are in the center of a nuclear holocaust looks horrible and will crap out your system).
I do hope that someone at TGC has or will be getting an ATI card and make whatever adjustments are necessary.
So I had some issues with x10 the first time I installed it so I started from scratch.
Installed Vista (I said from scratch!).
Took care of necessary stuff (like the firewall).
Installed x10 again.
Everything worked fine for a few (just like last time...) then every time I try to put a window in my level my card crashes and the test game crashes with an error. It doesn't give me any kind of error message. It just says to report it here with the .fpm (which I did in the other thread I made...which I have to unlock).
If you have an ATI card and you know what the problem is show some love and post the solution here.

RIP Floating Skull unknown-2007 we will miss you in FPSC x10

even FPSC origional runs at 30+FPS in all situations. Just X10 runs terrible. Their loosing sales by not considering to fix ati performance. I was going to buy but I'll wait until ati performance is fixed with FPSC X10.

I get some really good frame rates with x9.The only thing that seems to slow FPSC classic down is the AI and I am sure they are working on that.
If I turn down the effects in FPSC x10 I can still get some decent frame rates...but heaven help me if I try to use a window...
On the positive side I was able to put five enemies in the same room (3X3 segment) and it didn't slow x10 down any more.
So far I haven't had a slowdown due to enemy AI in x10.Keep in mind that I had to start from scratch so I haven't gotten to test the enemies and the enemy AI much (working on level design...).
Then again FPSC Classic took all this time to become fairly stable.
FPSC x10 is the next generation and it will take some time to work some bugs out (and a programmer with an ATI card maybe...).

RIP Floating Skull unknown-2007 we will miss you in FPSC x10

Catalyst 8.4 was released a couple days ago so I decided to reinstall my HD 3870 to to see how Catalyist 8.4 drivers would perform under X10 and I'm pleased to say that Catalyst 8.4 and my HD 3870 runs almost the same as Forcewares 163.25 and a 8800 GT now on my PC so this is a step in the right direction just thought I'd let everyone know.

FPSC X10 doesn't run that good still, and the shadows are REALLY buggy. Still wish that they would have had ATi users in mind..
