thats just a skin sorcre... if it wasnt against my beta contract to show you i'd show you what .Net actually looks like

its got a more simplified version of the current XP Blue/Silver/Green desktop called Shadi as the standard, its very plain but is quite nice (alot of people hate it though)

it consists of 3 task bars, the current Task bar your used to - the Program Bar & the Explorer Bar ... they're all quite useful especially using the new WFS which was shipped about a week ago, you can search a HDD in under 30seconds (a 160Gb one at that)

it holds alot of data and encryption actually per file so you loose about 10% of your total HDD space unfortunately but the change from 32bit to 64 or 128bit is pretty awesome

it now natively accepts 128bit colour mode as well as something called Tritonic 196bit colour mode - i can't get it to work on my Fx but i'm sure there is something which can use it.

as for running old Windows Software... DB 1.13 runs perfectly on my XP machine and works just as well in .Net so i wouldn't worry.
it comes with DirectX 9.1 as standard (right now, but probably 10 as it still have 2years dev to go)

yup... its a perk of being a Microsoft Beta Tester
you pay your $580/year they give you alot of free software which could potencially kill your system.

coolest part is anyone working for Microsoft, suchas FASA Games you get to download thier software too. Currently got Mechwarrior5 - Lone Wolf on here which plays pretty awesomely

Its got a new filing system WinFS, the desktop will be more graphical, with the graphics card doing most of the work.

The GDI system will be re-done - hopefully it will make sure that only new software will run.

Probably be out in a couple of years, with possibly the beta at around the end of the year.

Good news everyone! I really am THAT good...

How many ways are needed to load and run a program?

OK maybe the CLI is old fashioned but did they really have to remove it? Does anyone really need so many ways to access programs? Pop ups, pull downs, overlays, taskbars, desktop icons, window icons.... :-s

I'll stay with Windows 98SE then I'l progress to a flavor of Linux. No Teletubby desktop for me.

... do i have to repeat myself

THAT IS A SKIN, it is not the defualt skin... it was just a skin to show how veritile the desktop themes now are.

you can completely rewrite the entire desktop looks and useage - so if you prefer MacOS, rather than simply changing to a MacOS look you can change the position of the start bar to a topdown menu, change all of the button layouts to a similar setup ... addin the RamAccess Drive, etc...

the new desktop setup means that just reskinning is a simple affair everyone can do - but you can go further and change the very workings on the UI. But it makes the new WinAPI a bloody nightmare to work with

i think my two favorite Os9 kaleidoscope skins are woodnymph but im always drawn back to the notepad one.

I must download some more one day but after a while it crams out your system folder with like 50 megs of skins and can be detrimental unless you cull it down.

slightly higher jpgs than i would normally post
bit lazy on shrinking the size here
