I recently found out about silent walk fpsc v2, and i need to know, which is better? I've seen silent walk v2, and it looks pretty good, but is it better? Fpsc models are supported, and i'm sure you can reanimate the characters. Is it worth the money?

Looks crap. And with v2 of FPSC coming up, I think you know who comes out on top.

Steer clear of it. It can't be compared with FPSC.

The only other engine that looks of interest is Leadwerks v2.0 featured in the game creators magazine this month.

There's enough significant updates coming to FPSC to keep it on the top spot though.

What silent walk? HAHA! Laugh with me everyone laugh with me!!! Dude trust me. Fpsc is waaay better. The characters in silent walk are blocks. No lightmapping nothing. So muzzle flashes. Enemys explode like glass when you shoot them. Very bad AI. Fpsc is way worth it.

I'm fairly confident that Leadwerks is far superior to FPSC when it comes to capabilities, but I'm betting it isn't near as easy to use. I'm very interested in it however and may be purchasing it.

I don't think Silent Walk was all that bad personally. I think it's a good tool for a first step in creating a small game. besides it's fairly new so there's not much going for it yet.

FPSC is indeed a much better engine in terms of graphics and features but lets face it it's as buggy as an ant hill and laggy.

For what it's worth I love Silent Walk and will support it XD

You guys, Silent Walk 2 is a lot better. You should have checked it out before saying anything. It's NOTHING like SW1. The code was entirely re-written in blitz.

SW2 is still the same simple crappy 1 floor program, its lightning is great, but I think its still no good.

Its the same with a new rendering engine... Hurray... just like FPSC X10.

FPSC is improving a lot faster than any of the SW programs can even dream of. Let me know when the SW2 creator even considers multiplayer.

DLL version can be used with virtually any programming language.
Scripted engine requires no external language.
Programmable in BlitzMax with a BMX module.
Procedural interface allows full access to all features while maintaining a simple and straightforward API.
Headers available for C++, C#, VB, and other languages.
Abstract file system with no pre-defined folder structure.
Load files from .zip packages directly into memory.
Automatic caching and instancing of media files.

The above link gives you the required code for things like importing a 3DWS map, looking around, moving around etc.

Ill definately consider buying it when it's released. I really need to start learninbg a program language, and this engine is compatable with the BASIC language as well as others, so it's already better then dbpro.

LT Tatters posted before about Gamecore.
http://www.gamecore.ca/blog/2008/04/14/showcase-project-christian_ger/
Gamecore uses Beyond Virtual engine, I was in the beta of version 1.1. Gamecore requires scripting and it wasen't even easy at all. The editor seems powerful but it's nothing similier to what FPSC has got.

Seems like the graphics have changed alot and it looks sweet, but version 1.1 had bloom and DOF effect before.

Their only taking pre orders on the website at the moment but I too will be purchasing the Leadwerks 2.0 engine. Its £150 which is 3 times more than FPSC but you can't argue with the features.

The sandbox editor looks pretty nice on there too

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xz9jPmSnMiw

Only time will tell how managable the programming requirements are but the results for a $150 game engine look quite special.

Hey now, let's not start slamming RMXP. If TGC could come up with an RPG engine that used a side-view battle system (3D or not, I won't care) and included even half of the features that RMXP or VX does, I would buy it, and I'm not kidding when I say that's one of the few things TGC doesn't have that would establish themselves further. Until then, the RPG Maker series is like FPSC. Yeah, it might have a few bugs, but the games you can make with it are limited only by how far you're able or willing to script.

Leadwerks 2.0 engine
i have been looking at this new engine and must say
that i am verry interested and manbie consider droping x10
and persuing a different route to game creation,
reason why ?.
i do feel a bit let down with x10 at the moment
and see it as an uphill strugle with lack of comunication from tgc.
and suport with model packs even troubles importing new media is so
unpredictable. i do love x10 and it has great potential but when are tgc gona realise we need suport for this product.
i do feel let down a bit. they seem to have time for the new updates for x9 and even the new shop, but some people might think
that this shop might be a bit of a monopoly. not to the advantage
of the indy developer. or even holding back help and updates for the wrong reason. i hope that tgc will show some help and suport
on x10 when they have the shop running and releasing Leadwerks 2.0 engine.

I used to use gamemaker by Mark OVermars, which is what Silent walk was made of. Then i found silent walk, then FPSCreator.

For a program by gamemaker, silent walk is pretty good.
But, FPScreator (DBPro) is alot better

The Leadwerks 2.0 engine dose look awesome. When it is released, I might think about dumping FPSC, because its obvious that these guys are really keeping up to date with their engine. But you must learn programming to use it.

But what dose it offer multiplayer wise?

With an engine (And not a game maker like FPSC), it's not about Single Player or Multiplayer.

You have to PROGRAM the single player and multiplayer aspects of the game you want to make.

If you want to use Leadwerks, then you can expect to spend at least 50x more time in making a single game than with FPSC. This is especially true if you need to learn the programming language first.

FPSC does a whole lot of stuff for you that people take for granted (and usually complain about). This includes movement routines, firing your weapon, loading media, handling lighting, reading in AI scripts and processing them.

I can't imagine that Leadwerks will do all of that for you. But from what it's been showing off, I can see that it handles lighting and physics for you. You'll probably need to worry about doing the AI of enemies yourself, as well as player movement, player shooting, enemy shooting, picking up items, etc etc etc.

I hope no body here is under the misinterpretation that Leadwerks is going to be nearly as easy to use as FPSC.

The one and only,

That hits the nail on the head for me. I'd love to use a more advanced engine, but it depends whether your interest is mainly in programming, design or story-telling.

I'm a writer who wants to use game as a medium for interactive fiction. Like many FPSC customers, I'm working on my game alone. If I had to programme everything from scratch, it wouldn't be finished this century!

Same here Kilgore I've been having some trouble with some scripts in FPSC so Leadwerks is going to be a little out of my league for a while.

silent walk is sooooo lame! I dloaded the free version and spent 20 mins making a bull crap room were you can walk through walls and there are no textures.. lol fpsc 20 mins can get you a high qulity, well lighted, interactive map. V1.o9 is amazing i cant wait for v.2

Ok, Silent Walk FPSC sucks, period. You should see their thread about FPSC and how "horrible" it is.I'm serious.
"It's the new Silent Walk FPSC! Now ANYONE can generate crappy FPS games with just a click of a button!" When FPSC V2 comes out, everyone on their forums will be buying FPSC(not after weeping oceans, of course).

V2 will not be good. Heck, unless they re-haul the engine, half the things people dream of will lag FPSC on any machine. V2 is made out to be our gold-encrusted savior, but really, I doubt it. First off, V1.09 is super buggy. Second, they're going on to V1.10, not V2 or the migration, thats a long wait.
