Please help me!

I have got quite a lot of 3D models in Lightwave format that I would like to use in DBP. I know that I need to use a convertor to get them into a format that DBP will recognize, however, whenever I do it all I get is a plain white model, I don't get any of the associated textures. What happened?

Is the problem with the convertor I used (3DWin4) or is the problem located between my chair and my keyboard?

Thank you

If your converting to .x (you must be for DBPro) the textures need to be in the same directory as the model. However, it might not be a bad thing to load the images in seperately and texture the objects with code. The main advantage being that you can decide which textures to use, so you can variate the resolution, colour scheme etc. If you were making a sports game for example, it'd make sense to use models with no texture affiliations because it'd just slow down the loading of your players.

There is a little app that lets you select a .X model, then select which bitmaps to use for the textures - all without converting, so it makes it safe and easy to change textures. I'll post a link if your interested, it's something I added to the DX Texture Converter provided with the DX SDK.

Hehe. I don't even have a cat .

You know that there's 2 types of .x file, 1 is binary, which would look like gibberish, the other is ascii, which is more like a text file (albeit a complicated one). Both should work in DBPro.

Two types of .x file eh? I didn't know that! It seems a little odd to me but hey :-s

I still have the problem though. Even putting the texture files into the same folder as the model I still get white models.

Any Ideas?

Could you email me one of your converted models (.x file and textures), I'll take a look for you.

No they're not You've got a hotmail account and hotmail have a limited size for attatchments. My model and textures are unfortunately too large to be attatched.

Thanks anyway

Still no use!

I can attatch the textures to the email no problem, but when I try to attatch the .x file the emailer crashes - it just isn't destined to be.

Thanks for your time but don't worry about it - I can't send them

Hey, if x files are just text, why not send him the text and just rename the file to .x? that way, all you have to do is send text and tell him where to start and end the file. You can probably even cut it up if you want.

Or zip the model and image up?

Or, if you can load the .x file into wordpad or something, try looking through it or searching it for the texture file name.
