Very nice! Good model and texture. Looks more cartoon than realistic but that may be what you were going for. I like the style anyway!

Nope in a FPS Game you could have a gun at 1500 polys and be fine IMO.

Great texture and clean mesh, well done. Looks like it would fit in well in Team Fortress 2 or some other cell shaded game.

Can you also make animations? Like the gun revolving?

Also, do you know a good tutorial for making guns on blender?

actually i may make the guns animated thanks for telling me i totally forgot i could do that. haha.

with the guns and blender. i dont nkow of any tutorials for blender involving guns i just made a basic gun then with a decent texture id say get a reference picture of the gun you want and do an out line of the with vertices and start modelling it form there.

that is how i did it annyway

Looks great man. I think they would be even better if they were normal mapped to give some highlights to them.

@DB PROgrammer
i will be making that thiner as i agree with you.

Go download the demo of crazybump, then run your texture through it. To get it into DBpro, you will need a normal mapping shader, and a GPU which supports shaders (not sure if you knew that).

note: In crazy bump, adjust the heightmap so it is one solid color. Since crazybump's preview window uses parallax mapping, it wont look the same as in dbpro unless you remove the heightmap's detail (parallax mapping has to much "texture swimming" to be suitable for an FPS weapon).

www.crazybump.com of course! (google is quite helpful)

A "normal" is an angle in 3d space (for instance, the angle which a polygon is facing). A normal map is a texture which uses colors to depict different angles (normals) on an object's surface, hence the term "normal map". Normal mapping is a way to simulate detail in a manner which is less computationally expensive than actual detail (model geometry).

I wouldn't use crazy bump as it's a beta and it won't be free forever. I use Gimp for making my normal maps, there is a plug-in that makes them from the texture like crazy bump does

I don't know when the last time you checked was, but it is no longer a beta, and is no longer free. However there is a fully-functional demo which is good for 30 days.

If you have photoshop NVIDIA has a free plugin which generates normal maps automatically from textures. Works very well.

It is called Nvidia Melody (use google), and in my opinion is absolute garbage. That might be due to my ancient version of photoshop (5, which was written for windows 95 so I have to run it in compatibility mode).

On the other hand I looked at the Gimp's plugin as DB PROgrammer suggested, and as far as I can tell from the screen shots it puts melody to shame.

Edit: For future reverence, always use google before waiting for someone else to post a link. After all, that is the idea behind a search engine.

No it's not. It's just a PhotoShop plugin. Here's the link:
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=131215&b=3
Always use Google

It just converts an image into a normal map, and has a nice little preview button which maps the normal map to a plane so you can see how it might look.

I tried looking for it, but when I set it all up, it was missing a file or something. Where is the one you use?

Oh, now I think I see....

[edit] I just looked it up, and blender already has normal mapping, or at least I think. It seems pretty cool.

i dont really think i have skills more just time on my hands to put effort into it

@ programming maniac
normal mapping changes the normals to make your model look like it has more detail even when its low poly its like an optical illusion to say the least

im thinking of making a weapons pack which will include

uzi
m16 (but redone)
glock
Sniper (not sure what model yet)
rocket launcher
shotgun
knife

doesn anyone have more suggestions for this

Is that normal mapped? I can't really tell...

If it is, it looks great, if it isn't, it still looks great. Your good at modeling guns and weapons, are you going to make an entire set of weapons? I bet you could make some cash with that.

The guns are turning out nice!

One comment though, and it might just be the lighting and the position of the gun, but it seems like the handle of the gun is off to one side, like it isn't in the middle.

And as ive said in my previous posts i am making a whole set of weapons and they will be available for download to use in games after i have made the whole set. so if your interested in that just keep a look out on this thread for news about that

Woops, I didn't really read all of them....

Quote: "haha trust me its in the middle."

Then, I guess it was the position and the lighting.

Quote: "and no its not normal mapped as im still testing out normal maps and such there hard to get down since there isnt any tutorials "

I was hoping it was normal mapped, because I am too trying to figure it out, and I can't find any tutorials either

From the posts of the pictures, I am thinking you use blender. Well, if so, what UV mapping do you use? Like do you use the smart projections, the cube projections? I use smart projections, but it seems to get clogged up and have a bunch of faces that I can't figure out where they go....

Good luck on the weapons set!
