I don't post much over here on 3D Chat. But since I don't get much of a chance to show off my high poly work I thought I might as well. This is a Commando character I'm working on for FPSC, and it's based off of Sylvester Stallone, hopefully you can see the likeness even without any texture. Vest was patterned exactly like the one Schwartzenegger wore in the movie Predator.

I really like the musculature around the neck area. I also really like how the boots came out too (shoelaces were a BITCH). This was done almost entirely in 3ds Max, with Mudbox being used to add the clothing folds and wrinkles. Will be used to generate a normal map for a low poly character.

Da-amn that's detailed. That'd take me well over a year to do in TurboCAD.

ASUSTek Eee PC 701 4G Black - Celeron M @630mHz - 512Mb RAM - 32Mb Shared Intel GMA 900 - Windows XP Home SP1 - No antivirus/firewall.
And it still boots quicker than any other laptop I've seen.

Well mudbox is a sculpting software, which handles details quite well

Early stages of texturing. You are now looking at the low poly model - about 3700 triangles - God I love normal mapping.

The only part done so far are the boots, love how they came out, that was a hard material to texture convincingly. Ignore the crazy colored parts - that's just to make it easy for me to isolate selections in Photoshop.

Looks great as always Bond, and yes, you gotta love normal mapping

EDIT: Is it just me or does the fingers seem too thin?

As bond said in one of his other threads
" i hate doing hands"

they do look a bit thin but remember he will be wielding a gun and all, right bond?

ALMOST done. Yeah the fingers look a little puny, I'll have to do another round of adjusting. Just have to texture his knife sheath, and then make him a combat knife to go in it.

Nice work. Looks really well done. I wished normal maps worked better in FPSC. Instead of having to bake it in

90% of this was done in 3ds Max. I use Mudbox very sparingly, only for clothing folds and sculpting in some musculature. I don't buy into the idea that every inch of your model has to have some lame alpha brushed detail on it just because you CAN- I just think it looks messy especially for game art. I like clean lines. Oops I just caught myself in a mini-rant.

His script is no where near done. I still have to rig him, animate him, make HUD's for all of his special in-game abilities, and then finally work out the script. The majority of work still lies ahead...

Thanks! I've got him rigged, as well as his combat knife and FIRESPOT ready for animation. I've got his fight scheme planned out on paper and I'm itching to get started animating him next week when I'm off.

One of the criticisms of FPSC characters is that you can always retreat and fire at them from a safe distance. Well, this is no zombie, and he will be FAST, you will have to fight him on his terms. For the first half of the fight, it will be fast and furious melee, you will HAVE to fight him at close quarters, and you WILL have to dodge his attacks using a dedicated dodge key, or else you will die quickly, since his melee attacks will be powerful. The second half of the fight he will put the knife away and pull out a pistol, and will be a more traditional firefight with a twist - he will still try and close in on you and do a throat grab/headbutt/pistol whip attack if you get too close. When he's finally near death, he will get dazed, and you will have a precious few seconds to rush in and try several "Condemned" style finishing moves on him!

This is the plan.

And a cool little rigging technique for the mouth, as the mouth opens, more of the teeth are exposed, using only a single bone, ingenious! He'll need some limited mouth movements so he can grunt and such.

Here he is in the classic Stallone growl, complete with lazy crooked lower lip. All with a single mouth bone.

Awesome, now all you need is to give him a big machine gun, Stallone isn't Stallone without big gun...unless he's Rocky of course.

Bond, Good job man. The only thing I would revisit is the portion where the chest and the shoulder muscles meet. The fold looks a bit forced and not very natural.

Cheers,
Dave

Right on the mudbox website there is a tutorial video called "Navigating the 3D View".

You hardly ever see tutorials for Mudbox like you do Zbrush, because Mudbox is just SO easy to use that it really doesn't require tutorials. That's the main reason I chose it over Zbrush, I tried Zbrush a few years ago and got frustrated after the first 10 minutes. After 10 minutes in Mudbox, I was well on my way to my first sculpt.

Ugh. Bored. Stuck at work for two more days, then I can finally get him animated this week.

In the meantime, here's something for the ladies. Sexy Stallone in his "Hot Commando Calender" debut:

jesus,jureuselem,christ put that away!!!

i heard EA where hiring why not try?

saying that though i would myself rather keep this as a hobby since there not stress and no-ones relying on you but £4000 a week i got offered- they though i was at least 21 lol

if a half baked modelist like me can pull it off am pretty sure you could pass with flying colours

and lookin awsome

@Lazerus:
You really got offered a job by EA? Forgive me for being skeptical, but... well... I'm skeptical.
I just find it hard to believe that EA would offer you (or mostly anyone else here) a job. Your work is very good, but I don't think it's quite EA-good. I looked through a few of your threads and you do good work. Better than me, thats for sure. (For now...) Do you have a website so I can check out your work further?

To me, that means he was offered 4000 a week to work for EA, because they thought he was at least 21.

I've been animating like a ninja for the past three days, and there are just a few more sequences to complete. And a few surprises too, this will be THE ultimate character for FPSC - so far!
