ReD_eYe hit the nail on the head. bothering yourself with petty stuff like that can bog you down. i would also suggest that you make the engine first, get it to work properly, then get fancy with all the visual tidbits.
in answer to your ? : definitely make the ship bob and weave with motion. players might not notice the subtle movements; but they definitely will notice nothing at all. that would be just like having a character in a 3rd person game just stand there motionless; you gotta have some kind of idle

) whether it be a person fidgeting while standing still, or a ship tilting before turning/pitching/accelerating.
