I have tried to run basic demos in hardware mode. Some say that a phyx processor is required. I have one of the best nvidia graphics cards out there. I don't understand why it doesn't work. The fluid demo from the Dark Physics comp renders a bit weird. It shows a part of the object but the rest is white. (Guessing the white is the fluid or something)

Here are my specs:

Motherboard: XFX nforce 790i
Graphics Card: XFX 9800 GTX Black Edition
Processor: 3.33 ghz dual core processor
Memory: DDR3 2 ghz

What I have installed in order:
1: Dark Basic Professional
2: Dark Basic Professional 7.0 Update
2: Dark Physics version 1
3: Dark Physics version 1.5
4: AGEIA PhysX v250
5: AGEIA PhysX v80612

I have the drivers for my graphics card installed and cuda. I still have no clue why it wouldn't work.

Drivers: Geforce 9800 gtx

Drivers for graphics card:
GeForce Release 177
Version: 177.79
Release Date: July 29, 2008
Operating System: Windows Vista 64-bit
Language: U.S. English
File Size: 55.4 MB

Edit: Updated
GeForce Release 178 WHQL
Version: 178.13
Release Date: September 25, 2008
Operating System: Windows Vista 64-bit
Language: U.S. English
File Size: 103 MB

OS: Windows Vista 64-bit

Solution:
You have to install the latest DirectX, the latest PhysX, and the latest DBP version.
You must turn PhysX on under the Nvidia control panel!
Turn anti-aliasing Off

Thanks for any help!

physX drivers should be up to 08.09.04 and DBPro 6.9 or 7.0 beta 4 see if that helps.

HowDo is right, you need atleast 177.xx for geforce physics. I am currently running the 177.92 beta (latest for XP) drivers on my 9600GT and DP hardware mode runs great. You can download the drivers here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_177.92_beta.html. Some people like to avoid beta drivers, but I havn't run into any problems with it.

Once you install the drivers, make sure to go into control panel>Nvidia PhysX, then the settings tab to enable hardware physics.

The latest PhysX drivers can be found here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx_8.09.04_whql.html

@revenant chaos

don't know if you've downloaded Nurien Tech Demo form Nvidia, if you have do you get a good frame rate as the most I get is 2.7 fps , and the MKZBenchmark more sound and less move on that one.

cheers howDo

I also forgot to mention I have vista. I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Thanks for your help.

Ok, I downloaded every driver I needed and tried the nvidia phyx fluid demo. The fluid demo worked, but the Dark Basic Professional fluid demo's don't work. Is this because I am using windows vista?

This is what the fluid demo looks like in DB Pro:

Let me know what I can do.

Thanks for any help,

Dark Fire - that is quite odd. Seeing that the demo which comes with the driver worked, I would have to guess that it is some sort of compiling problem. I don't have any experience running vista so I can't offer any advice other than to search these forums for "vista" and see if anyone else has had similar problems.

HowDo - I get between 10 and 16 fps, with an average of 11fps. My system specs are:

AMD Athlon 3700+ 2.2ghz
2gb pc3200 ram (400mhz)
EVGA Geforce 9600gt 512mb (superclocked edition)

How does your machine compare? Possibly because I am using newer drivers? Try to close or suspend everything else (Anti-virus, internet connection, etc..) and see how it runs.

I buy a 9600gt Zotac, install

Never worked, I get a refund, I don't know how you get it to work.
The driver is not beta: the force within

I download the Fluid demo from The force with in.
Fluids: Technology Demo
http://sg.nvidia.com/content/forcewithin/us/download.asp

And it worked fine. But when I try to run DBP Fluid demo like water.exe it crash.
Also when I try the slime demo I got

Attempt to create PhysX hardware scene when PhysX hardware not accessible

I now have a 9800GTX+ the problem come from DBP or one of those updates or DF. Cause the Fluids: Technology Demo from NVIDIA work just fine for me.

I place a image of that message when trying the SlIME dark physics demo.

When it is too complicated it is because you are trying at the wrong door.

I get the the exact same message on a 8800GTS(640) using 177.83 drivers when trying to run the Slime demo also when trying to use fluid blobs.

Hmm. This is interesting. I believe that vista may be the problem. Some people are able to get it to work on XP. I would have to look into what can be changed with vista to get it to work.

PS. I have looked at the vista thread explaining how to get DB Pro to work on vista and followed that already. Everything else works, just not the fluid demo's.

If you can run that Fluid demo
http://sg.nvidia.com/content/forcewithin/us/download.asp
then your system is working find, the problem will be fixed soon after the next news letter: a new DF update is comming.

Random color object and others what does the Nvidia PhysX properties found in control panel say on the info tab?

And have you set setting in the setting tab to what you are using -graphics card or PhysX card - ?

Better here is a video of the Particle fluid demo, this is what you should get if your card have the right Nvidia Driver AND the Physx driver.
http://www.wegame.com/watch/NVIDIA_PhysX_Particle_Fluid_Demo/

I want to do that test. Ok.
1. I inset a link on how to get it here,
http://www.nvidia.com/content/forcewithin/us/download.asp

2.Fist uncheck all, and check the last one called Fluids: Technology Demo

3. Click Download (at the bottom)
4. Install this. After installation go on control pannel, look for the Nvidia PhysX Icon. Click on it.
5. Make sure on tab (3th on property or something: sorry mine is in French) that you have cheacked PHYSX
I place a picture

Follow on the next post

Now your PhysX is enable in the Nvidia PhysX icon in the control pannel. If not check my post above.

Now your PhysX demo is installed, he will tell you if your computer, and drivers are ok. If not check my post above.

Now it is time to test if it all worked. Click on (if you are not already there) control pannel, Nvidia PhysX icon, choose DEMO TAB choose PARTICLE FUILD DEMO it should look like this
http://www.wegame.com/watch/NVIDIA_PhysX_Particle_Fluid_Demo/
Watch the fluid running, press "c" to change color to red, how cool.
How to get the frame rate(optionnal you don't need it to run physX on your computer) you can have it on FRAPS website here.
http://www.fraps.com/download.php

You should have NOTHING else to do to make your physX card working.

Hey I try all this it din't worked.

1. Do you have the following card (or get one)

GeForce GTX 280
GeForce GTX 260
GeForce 9800 GX2
GeForce 9800 GTX+
GeForce 9800 GTX
GeForce 9800 GT
GeForce 9600 GT
GeForce 9600 GSO
GeForce 9500 GT
GeForce 9500 GS
GeForce 9400 GT
GeForce 9300 GS
GeForce 9300 GE
GeForce 8800 Ultra
GeForce 8800 GTX
GeForce 8800 GTS 512
GeForce 8800 GTS
GeForce 8800 GT
GeForce 8800 GS
GeForce 8600 GTS
GeForce 8600 GT
GeForce 8600 GS
GeForce 8500 GT
GeForce 8400 SE
GeForce 8400 GS
GeForce 8400
GeForce 8300 GS
GeForce 8300
GeForce 8200
GeForce 8100 / nForce 720a
GeForce 8100 / nForce 720a
AGEIA PhysX Processors (All)

Also if your computer is old don't try the big newest cards, they eat up power of the power supply and can create bugs. Check on your power supply for max Watt it can realease, then the +12v how much A (amp) it can release. And compare with the box. Or call EVGA support 1-888-880-3842. This is bad if you buy a card that can't work well in your computer.

2. You need to install at least the last driver of your card. Oh already 178.13.
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
3. You need the PhysX driver, same page as above but scroll dow to find the NVIDIA PhysX System Software, download and install this. Reboot will not hurt.

Then redo what I mention in this post. If you have any difficulties email me.

By the way you will be happy now that your PhysX card and driver is working well and water is comming out of the pipe in the demo. Now you want your Slime and Water demo to work in Dark Physics that will be fixed on the next few weeks after the next news letter is released. Where is the news letter? Click here. http://www.thegamecreators.com/?gf=newsletter

I struggle and surf for 2 weeks to find those thing out. Still have some question? That is the questions: do I have a video card that will work with Dark Physixs?

Good question. Before the version 08.09.04 was realeased you needed some PhysX ready card or Aegis. I try those, called Nvidia Support, they say:"PhysX ready are slightly faster on physX use". So don't go spend the big $ for a physX ready card. Since the new driver is released ALL THOSE CARD'S MENTIONEND HERE CAN MAKE PHYSX. And they can be any kinda card with those models from EVGA, BFG, XFX, Zotac compagny and any of their extension over clocked or super overclocked. You don't need to see on the box PHYSX Ready. The following model all work. I am running a Evga 9600gt and the fluid demo run at 14 FPS, it is enough for me.

GeForce GTX 280
GeForce GTX 260
GeForce 9800 GX2
GeForce 9800 GTX+
GeForce 9800 GTX
GeForce 9800 GT
GeForce 9600 GT
GeForce 9600 GSO
GeForce 9500 GT
GeForce 9500 GS
GeForce 9400 GT
GeForce 9300 GS
GeForce 9300 GE
GeForce 8800 Ultra
GeForce 8800 GTX
GeForce 8800 GTS 512
GeForce 8800 GTS
GeForce 8800 GT
GeForce 8800 GS
GeForce 8600 GTS
GeForce 8600 GT
GeForce 8600 GS
GeForce 8500 GT
GeForce 8400 SE
GeForce 8400 GS
GeForce 8400
GeForce 8300 GS
GeForce 8300
GeForce 8200
GeForce 8100 / nForce 720a
GeForce 8100 / nForce 720a
AGEIA PhysX Processors (All)

You might want to compare price, speed. I try a 9800 GTX and it was running the demo at 18 FPS. I don't know what exactly make a card faster on FPS with a PHYSX application.

But this web site can help you to choose a card.

http://www.gpureview.com/

We all wait from the new update to release to try the full capacity of the Dark Physic Fluid capacity.

Good luck, for any questions feel free to email me.

Wow, thanks...but this makes me even more confused.

I have still can't get the demo's to work when they are compiled using DB Pro. I think it is using software mode because it is really slow and you can't see much.

I was able to go to phyx properties and run one of the precompiled demos.

I know that the code is the same as the one I ran directly from DB Pro (by compiling) and the demo I ran.

What might help is posting some code for a small fluid demo that shows how to force the simulation to Hardware mode.

Thanks for your help!

i have vista and geforce 8600gt with the latest physx and nvidia beta driver and the fluids run fine i get about 40 to 50 fps even more if the fluids go down the drain properly.

however on mi laptop with gforce go 7300 the didn`t work correctly.

even the fluids worked on my 8600gt without the latest beta driver from nvidia with the geforce physx hardware thingy .

good luck

Edit: What information can I get about the update for Dark Physics?

@mitsieee: I already stated that I have vista. (That may contribute to the problem)

What bugs me is I haven't been able to run a program by compiling it in DB Pro, but I was able to run a pre-compiled demo. For some reason it is in software mode. What doesn't make sense is it is the same code.

Is their anyone looking into this? Does the developer of Dark Physics know about this?

Thanks for any feedback.

Now my fluids completely disappeared! I don't know what I am going to do now. Since new updates I can't see any fluids...

Anyone who has gotten it to work please post specs, fps, and versions in Dark Physics and DBP.

Thanks

Ok. I figured I would ask one more time.

I can run the pre-compiled demo called Slime. I accessed it from phyx properties shown in the picture below.

Originally posted by: Random color object

According to HowTo: "there was a small post somewere stating that TGC are using code provied by a nvidia software person for fuilds and that might be the cause, but no one really knows."

If it was the case that the code was provided by nvidia then why do we have the code for it?

The demo is called Slime under the Dark Physics\Demos folder.

What I am asking is why can I run the pre-compiled version of the demo Slime and not compile and run the demo using DBP?

The demo compiled by DBP doesn't show the slime or fluid. It only shows the barrels falling. When I run the pre-compiled demo I get slime or the fluid and the barrels.

The pre-compiled demo works so the only thing not working is DBP. Why wouldn't DBP be able to generate a working .exe of the Demo Slime?

It would really help if the creator of Dark Physics or someone from Nvidia explain how the demo Slime ended up in PhyX properties and if the code is the same.

Also, if someone such as a mod could explain how DBP wasn't able to render the Fluids correctly that would be helpful.

Thanks,

Dark Fire

Does the physx panel show your hardware as enabled?
What version of directx is installed? (I`m using november 08)
You should ignore the precomiled slime demo totally. Its based on an older version and only requires system software from the time when it was compiled. Use the newer more relevant one (attached, remember to unblock after d/l) - just put it in the right folder so it can find the media. Tell us if you can see the fluid in this demo. When you reset the demo with LMB the program toggles between hardware and software mode, you can tell by the framerate.
Update to latest video drivers, nvidia control panel(ntunehttp://www.nvidia.com/object/ntune_5.05.54.00.html), DBP(1.072), direct xhttp://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displaylang=en and mobo drivers. Note that the physx control panel no longer exists - included as part of the newer nvidia control panel - no precompiled dbp demo`s available either.
You should also get latest PhysX System Software http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx_9.09.0203_whql.html

In addition to the nvidia control panel you might want this as your mobo has support

Yes.

"What version of directx is installed? (I`m using november 08)"
Updated about a few days ago.

"LMB the program toggles between hardware and software mode, you can tell by the framerate."
I have tried this already.

I will try the nvidia control panel.

Be sure to update across the board. The control panel itself is likely to be dependent on system software versions.

Edit: Just a thought, but have you ever had the demo installed, if you have was it uninstalled prior to full product install?

Also is it just the fluids thats an issue?

@ James H - "Where you able to see the fluids in the download in my post?"

Haven't yet. Will try a bit later.

"Also is it just the fluids thats an issue?"

Fluids are not being rendered.

Thanks,

@James H-
Ok. I tried updating phyx with the old phyx (Ageia PhyX Control Panel) still installed. I also installed nvidia_system_tools_6.03 and ntunes.

Tried to run your program and it said that an image was missing.

I have DBP 7.1 or 7.2...what every the latest is.

I wasn't able to get any difference. The fluids just won't render.

Thanks for the help,

Dark Fire

try latest vid drivers
failing that you could install directx nov 08 as sometimes specific versions are required
one last thing I can think of that doesn`t seem to have been mentioned is do you have latest cuda drivers? You only need one of the 3 downloads here(driver)http://www.nvidia.com/object/cuda_get.html

Did you run the exe from the right place?
Did you unblock it after download?
If yes to both, what image number and line?

@James H - Moved it into the fluid demo source path. The demo worked like it should.

FYI: When I try and compile and run the example my-self I get two errors:
- "Tried to read a surface with no read permissions!"
- "Run Time Error 500 - Unknown Image Error at line 204"

Line 204: get image 1,106,459,419,507,1

Not important..considering it is the screen it shows after the demo is over. Just thought it was interesting. Has nothing to do with fluids.

Why would I run a compiled version that you created? I already know that fluids work for my computer. I just can't get a compiled version in DBP.

Also, I tried installing DirectX Nov 2008 and the nvidia drivers (winvista_x64_182.06_whql.html) and it still doesn't work.

I don't know why those would have to do with DBP not being able to render fluids. FYI: I still have to try and see if restarting my computer makes any difference.

If I am able to run a fluid example made with DBP (pre-compiled) then the only thing wrong is with my DBP compiling the same fluid example.

I forced it to run hardware mode as well. It runs faster but still doesn't work. I also played around with Phy Start by changing the values to fluid mode, hardware mode, and multi-threading on.

I believe that DBP is the problem. What version do you have? What Dark Physics Version do you have?

I have: DBP 7.1 and Dark Physics 1.05.

Solution:
You have to install the latest DirectX, the latest PhysX, and the latest DBP version.
You must turn PhysX on under the Nvidia control panel!
Turn anti-aliasing Off

Thanks for your help!

Thats a known issue and is fixed with a different upgrade http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=139916&b=15 install 1.072 upgrade from here and everything will work as it should - I did ask you to do this in my first post.

Quote: "Why would I run a compiled version that you created? I already know that fluids work for my computer."

To verify it so your not wasting my time. You do realise by confirming that the goo demo runs successfully doesnt quantify as confirmation that the components of your system are suitable and working for the newer upgraded demo? Verifying it can run succesfully helps determine if its the system software setup or the compiler setup.

FYI you keep stating you have version 7.1. You don`t, you have a version of 7.1 http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=138663&b=1 how many versions do you see? 7.12 is the final version and that fixes the error you get when compiled. You never got those errors before on compilation which suggests the version now installed was different to the 7.1 you keep mentioning. The smartest thing would be to upgrade to latest version or upgrade to a known working version(6.9 I think).

Everything. Drivers should really be self explanatory, without the right ones, you are likely to have severe graphical issues. Your compiler for dbp needs directx. The whole system needs direct x. All graphics in the 3d environment need direct x. More importantly the right version. There is a reason that direct x and video drivers get a mention in the required system specs on the back of every game box on sale. You need the right ones.

@James H - Thanks so much for your help. That image error was starting to get annoying. It might explain why DBP programs crash when you close them.

Also, could you post your stats such as DBP version, DirectX versions installed, and other drivers. It would really help me when I reinstall everything I need to make sure it matches your setup.

Thanks,

Dark Fire

Nvidia control panel(ntune) ver 2.2.390.00
PhysX_9.09.0203_SystemSoftware(may not be the latest - latest should be fine)
CUDA drivers - not the latest version - I have no way of telling what version - latest version should be fine
Mobo drivers - 15.23_nforce_winvista64_international_whql(you have different mobo so you want drivers for the 790i - nvidia_system_tools_6.03)

@James H - Still can't get fluids to work. I went in the new control panel, turned PhyX on, and it still doesn't work.

Here is what I have installed:
AGEIA PhyX v2.5.0

Dark Physics Expansion Pack
Dark Physics Expansion Pack - 1.0.1
Dark Physics Projects

Microsoft DirectX SDK (June 2008)
Microsoft DirectX SDK (November 2008)

Nvidia Cuda Toolkit
Nvidia Drivers
Nvidia Forceware Network Access Manager

Nvidia Performance
Nvidia PhysX
Nvidia PhysX SDK 2.8.1
Nvidia System Monitor
Nvidia System Update

Everything is there. I even updated DBP to the latest version (v 7.2) and have Dark Physics 1.05.

-DBP v1.072
-Dark Physics v1.05
-Direct X(November 08, 2008) (Latest)

Let me know if I am missing anything or what I can do.

Thanks,

Dark Fire

Didn`t you have the same problem HowDo? How did you fix it(if you fixed it)?
Its actually not clear which physx version is installed

The last 3 lines in bold - a typing error here, but was the first of those 3 lines intended to show what version of physx or was it part of the typing error?
