I have been working on a Multiplayer FPS for a while know but finally have one with decent looking graphics. I have about 2 weeks to get this game playable because I would like to show it at the local LAN party October 3rd.

Urban Soldier: Requiem takes place is 2093 in London. You take either the position of a ALA soldier(Armtech Loyalist Alliance, British and American combined forces) or BLF soldier(Betrass Liberation Front, Terrorist group fronted by Alfed Betrass). The BLF have control of all Eastern Europe and parts of Western Asia. They have been raiding England for the last 10 years but have been held back by the forces of the ALA. The BLF's last stand against Armtech is code named Requiem. All the battles take place in London, which as been laid to ruins after 10 years of attacks.

The Map I am working on takes place in the London Subway.

Here is new Screenshot with some quick lights

It all looks very good, my only real criticism (as a londoner) would be that it doesn't look much like the london underground. Most of the underground stations were built many years ago, they are much less clean than that, and the majorety of the tunnels/platforms are curved, not square.

if you want I can get you some reference photos of underground stations.

Looks cool Vorg1. I really like the graphics, are they all yours, or do you have a small team?

Thanks Butterfingers for pointing that out. I have been to London once and that was about 8 years ago but I should have done more research. I will also work on grunging up the textures so it looks dirty. Also I should have looked for london underground pics not subway station pics. Also it would be awesome if you could send me some more underground pics. I'll search some more out on google.

@Satchmo Thanks for the pic.I am the only person working on graphics though my friend sometimes helps on programming. The only thing that I didn't make was the player and a couple of the textures I found on the internet but I went through and edited them to my liking.

I will finish my map tomorrow and then I will record a video showing gameplay and put it up on youtube. I'll try to get 3 people playing against each other in the video though the game supports up to 8.

Nice video . Gameplay looks good, and I like the lightmapping.
Criticisms:
-I'd make the blood splatter slowly fade away fairly quickly after it goes on the screen. I think it should just be used to show you got hit rather than actually obscure your vision.
-Instead of just lowering the field of view to zoom, do that and move the gun so you're aiming down the sights.
-Play the dying animation of the guys you kill more quickly. This might be intentional to be "slow-mo", but in order for that to work well, you'd need to slow everything down, not just their dying animation.

Good job so far, looking forward to more.

Really cool vid!
But like Gil said, the death animation is a little too slow.
Keep it up!

Thanks for the comments. I will take everything into consideration. I have already been working iron sights(they are nearly finished) and the death animation speed isn't that hard to fix. I'll release another vid in a week or so to show off any new updates.

Looks nice. Attractive, solid and fun. I wouldn't worry too much about it looking just like a real London tube station- most people who'll play it probably won't really notice, and just saying it's in London will buy into people's ideas of it anyway, as long as it kind of looks like they might imagine London could look.

I've got a great PS2 game called Maken, and the "real world locations" bear pretty much no resemblance to their namesakes, but are still hella cool, and the game is better for using real world location names.

Anyway i look forward to seeing more.

thanks Mr Tank. That level I really rushed on to get a video out so it is not really a final level. I'll be working on making it look better.

Also one of my friends pointed out that the story looks alot like WWII. It is sort of a WWIII kind of game I was going for. I didn't really realize the similarities when I wrote it. Do you guys think I should change it or just leave as is?

Nice .

Quote: "Slowed down death animation"

Don't you mean sped up?

My suggestion for the iron sights would be to add a little iron prong aimer thing in the middle of the circle at the end of the gun, like this:
http://www.gamereplays.org/community/uploads/post-92677-1211136343.jpg
and then just take the crosshair away when you are aiming.

Lookin good. However a few crits for you!

1. Add tracer rounds, it makes things look cooler.
2. Add different color lights, gives a better feel. (Yellow is good for grungy)
3. Also when you fire a gun it should kinda blow back and your screen should shake a little. However your gun shouldn't violently shake

Otherwise it looks great man!

Up to you dude, but bear in mind WWII games have been done a lot, and people will probably see inaccuracies more readily there, since they've played a lot, than a present day or near future type game. Also it'd be a lot of work to change all the media and that, wouldn't it?

Basically do what you want. If you'll be motivated more to complete a WWII game and have the right media and stuff, then do it.

@Osiris: Thanks. I have been think of adding tracers. The light were also a really quick so there aren't permanent. With the new iron sights the screen actually move around when you shoot so i'll work on implementing it into the zoom out mode too.

@Mr. Tank: I was not going to change the game or media at all. I was maybe going to change the story due to the similarities between it and WWII. There are WAY too many WWII games out there and how many times do you actually have to play through D-Day.

Looks faaaaar better with this lighting. IMO the gun texture could be better and you shouldn't make possible for blood to overlay the HUD, but otherwise, it looks very good.

Make games, not war.

Looks better...
there are some texture stretchings and such but that aint no big deal ATM...

Also with accoun with the weapon texture, I wouldnt mind giving it a do if you wish =)(basicly making it look better... need the 3ds file too >_<.)

Thanks Matuka

The texture stretching is just me rushing on the level and not spending much time on the mapping.

Thanks for the offer I appreciate it but I really want to improve my texturing skills while working on this project. I'm working on the gun some more getting it finished and cleaning up the the uvs.

How'd you guess

FEAR is my all time favorite game so it is only natural I gave it a similar look. I am not that creative at coming up with ideas sometimes.

The 3 main influences that inspired me with this game:

FEAR
Killzone
COD 4

I have 5 days until the LAN party I am going to show the game off at. Hopefully in 2 weeks(maybe less) I will put a demo out.

I have got only 24 hrs until I am going to be showing my game and having people test it. I am very excited( and nervous) to see people's C&C about it. I will record a video of them testing the game and post it within a couple of days hopefully. I hope it all goes well.

Looks pretty, I like it. I personally think the problem isn't the gun it is the hand. The gun looks odd because the thumb's texture seems a bit dodgy, in my opinion.

Thanks for the compliments I just got home about an hour ago. I had a total blast. People were really impressed with the game. I got 5 people on the server at one time but decided not record that. It was just chaos on that small of map. I will put a video up hopefulley within a day or so.( I've got to get sleep some sleep tonight. In 36 hours I got umm about 2 hrs of sleep) One thing is that I am making a better more original weapon. ( I doubt they would still use a G36c in 2093).

@Uncle Sam: I will work on a option to turn off blood for the more sensitive of us. I'll try to add that before I get the demo out because I know many people aren't fans of lots of blood and gore.

Also Some other awesome things at the LAN party.

My team got 2nd out of 16 teams in a 5 vs 5 Search and Destroy COD 4 tourny

Also in the raffle won an intel quadcore 9650 processor.

But had an awesome time.

Thanks for the offer Demonware. If you wouldn't mind could you make a hand model first. That would be great.

I am going through and revamping the whole style and layout of the game. It is going to have a more gothic feel to the levels and a more hardcore sci-fi feel to weapons and HUD. The levels are going to look more futuristic but at the same time combine older style architecture. Similar to that of Gears of War and games like that. I will still keep it based in London(or what is left of it anyway). I have began working on the new Assault Rifle and have started to design the pistol. I have also drawn out plans for a new bigger level. One that would comfortably support 8 people or more. Sound effects are another thing I am working on updating. The only thing that is holding me back right know is work and school.

Here is the list of weapons I want to have in the finshed game.

Pistol
SMG
Shotgun
Assault Rifle-ALA style
Assault Rifle-BLF style
Sniper Rifle
Pulse Rifle

New Updates

I have decided to call the new level Wasteland. It takes place in the slums. There are destroyed cars, barriers, and low walls to use as hiding places. It is pretty wide open with good buildings to snipe from. I have already begun modeling it and should have it completed by the weekend, maybe sooner.

Also I have a new option to change the resolution of the game. There are six options to choose from. 640x480 windowed - 1440x900 fullscreen. So you can change the screen size to whatever suits best.

After I finish the new level and touch up some of the prolems I will try to release an early demo. The biggest problem is I have never tried to play it on anything other than a LAN connection so I have no idea how well the online thing would work. Well I know it works 100% on LAN so that is a good thing. Please tell me if you would be intrested in testing the game even if you could only play it over LAN with friends. I will begin figuring out if it even works on online. I hope so.

Rather than have 6 resolution options to choose from, I recommend using the perform checklist for display modes command (or whatever it's called ). I always hated when a game limited your resolution selection to a set few even when your monitor could handle more.

Anyways, looks really good! The new assault rifle looks great, although the hand seems a little far back. Might just be me though, hard to tell at that angle.

Thanks Roxas. The game runs at a constant 60 fps so I will be working on putting some more eye candy. I really want to add evolveds bloom shader into it but shaders confuse me.

I added some lightmaps to the new level and heres a wider perspective of the map.
