It isn't supposed to take long to connect...
Is your connection slow?

And about the board zero thing, I don't get an error. It only says "no one has posted messages. Why not be the first?" or something like that...

Is it at least faster than going to the forum in your browser?

Nope.

Forum topics load in I.E.: 9 seconds.

Forum topics load in your program: 38 seconds.

that's strange. I.E. downloads images and my program doesn't. On my PC it's ALOT faster than IE.
That's what I don't like about programming: If it works on your PC there's no way of knowing if it will work on someone else's!!!

User/Password verification should be fast because the Server response is very short (10 lines). Also, for now, my program is case sensitive. Mabe that's why you're not getting in??

ShockForge, you probably had little memory for the program to store and process all the HTML code. I'll see if I can optimize something.

It's because windows XP uses ALOT of resources. I have 256 mb and I'm using windows 98. I'm uploading an update so you can view and answer posts. The first usable betta of the program.

That's awsome!
could u make some posts bold (like on the actual forum website)?
that would be better.

also, it u could put like half a line in between lines to space it out it would be easyer to read.

one last thing: if u could make it remeber ur login name and/or password. (i always forget, not my password, but my login name I had to try 5 differend things! )

I can make it remember the login, that's easy. What I can't do is make the posts bold (like in the forum) because of a VB limitation. The same goes for the spacing between the names. I'll see if I can find an alternative later.

I have a simpler idea. Don't use darkBasic? I've got another program called 'The Games Factory' only cost me 5 quid. you can download alsorts of things including how to connect to an internet server. You could use that to make an msn messenger format kinda thing. Its quiet good considering its limits. You'd be able to easily make this on it. It looks crap but give it a try if DarkBASIC Coding is frustrating for ya.

http://www.clickteam.com/English/Welcome.php?L=English

then rummage for 'The Games Factory'

its worth a try...

Actually I've seen the games factory and I didn't want to learn yet another programming language. Besides, I'm allready half-way finished on this project, and darkBASIC is EXTREMELY easy.
Scrapping the project to start again isn't a good idea.

Did you even take a look at it???

It diddn't take me long to connect (about 3 seconds)!

A suggestion:

Make it so when you double click a post the window the post is displayed in is bigger.

A question to those who've used the thing:
Should I make a DB version??

I was told that it would be too annoying and resource consuming, so
despite my laziness, should I go through all the trouble of adding DB support?

Right now I'm working on recording the user name and password.
thanks

The program never quits!!
If you run it, close it, and check the task manager it's still running!

I took a look at that and it quits normally and doesn't show up on the taskbar anymore. Maby the glitch is caused by your windoze?

AHHHHHHHH!

EDIT:
First of all:
I was trying to run your program to see if it ended properly and, well just read on

(Not an edit: )
OK,
I was cleaning up my computer today, and delete the "DBCom1" folder on my desktop. I had the origonal zip file and re-unziped it. I got an error message (see botom code box). So I re-downloaded the zip, extracted it, and ran it. I got the same error:

I just made an update:
It now records the login data.
Fixed a bug which took you to the wrong forum.

I'm trying to take the thing out of the taskbar after you quit but I can't tell what's not right!
My webserver is down (again) so you'll only be able to get the updated version later.

I just thought I'd mension that there is an execute command in dbc, it's execute file. I use it in my interface program to open files in internet explorer, but you can also open an exe with it, just leave the command line blank.

woohoo! my web server is finally up again!! After 3 days (i think) of software updating, my page is finally back on air! I have a ton of stuff to upload. Check the page for the latest DBCOM release.
two questions:
1) What should I call that program??? DBMessenger? Should I just leave it as DBCOM? DBDBDBDB?
2) Is any one using it? (or is it too early a beta to be usefull?)

Ok, Da_real_sonic, you're probably testing the program AFTER the forum update. Since the links in this site have all changed, DBCOM1 no longer works.

I'll have to re-write a bunch of its code. But since I'm too lazy, I'm giving up on it, and I'll post its full source code one my site (if anyone asks for it) so if anyone is brave enough to try to update it, please do.

id appreciate it if you could give me a DB version of the code, that is, if you ever made one...

i **might** be able to update it, though my programing skills are limited.

email: [email protected]

another thought, you could always approach TGC with it and tell them what its for and im sure that they'll host the file for you to d/l from there site direct...

hehe, I'd forgotten about this thread...
I was trying to make a DB version of it, but programming winsock under DBPro is a pain. I'm considering getting back to work on it later, but only after I get my game (for the compo) done. I'll look for the source and upload it to my site later.

There isn't a DB version. I was planning on making a VB program that would communicate with a DB program through files, but i'm too lazy.

Why isn't the top frame loading? It's supposed to.

urm, i don't know, it just comes up with an error from your host, a 404 error.

yeah, ok... but i don't know VB, so i can't really do it... good luck if you pick it back up in the future, though...
